Djburney's Journal, 21 December 2012

After today, 10 days off! The funny thing is that until my boss asked me yesterday what my plans are, I didn't even realize I have that much time off. That includes weekends and holidays and a little PTO. Lets see if I can actually not work for that long. I doubt it, but most of my customers are off too, so it's time to enjoy my family and Christmas!

I always wanted a daughter, and was so happy when she was born and I got my Rachel. Then I had another girl, and was thrilled about my Kathryn. But then I couldn't have anymore (financial, not physical), and I didn't get to have the experience of raising a boy. I hoped that someday my daughter would find a wonderful man who is good to her and can be the son I never had. This Christmas, I have that. Rachel and her soon-to-be husband, Chris, are coming tonight from San Diego. Chris asked me if he and I could spend some time together tomorrow while the girls go bridesmaid dress shopping. I get to spend time with my "son." We are going to the horse races, I tried really hard to find something that a 30 yr old guy would like to do with his 54 yr old mom-in-law. i am blessed!

I fasted until around 4:00 yesterday, and felt much better. I knew that increase in weight yesterday wasn't real, I could feel it in my belly. It felt like how I feel when I eat bread. I didn't so I don't know where it came from. Anyway, down almost 3 lbs to my normal maintenance weight. I'd love to break through that, but I'm ok with maintaining until after the holidays. Then, watch out goal, I'm going to figure out how to get to you!
192.8 lb Lost so far: 0 lb.    Still to go: 28.8 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
losing 18.2 lb a week

That's so great that you get to spend time with your future SIL, and that you are happy for them and she's found a good guy! Enjoy it, and your 10 days off!

Yes, while I enjoy buying much smaller clothes (from size 18-20 to 12-14), I'm not satisfied yet. People say, "are you sure you want to lose more weight?" Yes, I'm sure! 192 lbs is better than 243, but I'm still motivated to lose at least 30 more lbs. 160-yes please!

We are on a roll Debbie! I'm with you - size 8 (for me 148) here we come. Right now I don't care if I look like Olive Oyl - let people talk. I just want to be healthy and I know I feel good with very little fat on my bones. :)

Susan, if it takes me getting to 148 to be a size 8, I will do it! My sister is about the same height and build as me, and she was an 8 at 150. For now, I'm shooting for a normal weight BMI, then see what it takes to get to where I can't grab any fat on my belly or ribs. Too thin? I don't know how anyone could say that an 8 is too thin.

1) Horse races are great fun! We have them here each spring in my hometown (one of only 2 places in the state with a wagering racetrack) It's awesome for all ages. Great idea! .... 2) the size thing is so weird. my skinniest was 170 & I could fit most low-waist size 8 jeans. all my weight was in my torso, chest (like ribs not boobs!), & arms. I still could grab lots of fat, but people said I looked to thin & I had should stop. Like you now I'm in a 12-14 @190+. I think when people have seen you heavier they are comparing your current size to your previous one & it skews their image of what is healthy. If me at 170 met a stranger, they wouldn't have thought I was too thin.

I've only got one daughter so I, too, missed the experience of having a son. But, like you, her boyfriend has become part of the family and it's so nice to have that young male presence. A day at the racetrack sounds like the perfect activity to help your SIL escape the bridesmaid dress shopping and allow the two of you your bonding time. Have fun (and good luck!).

It's going to be a picture-perfect weekend in the Valley of the Sun. A high of 70 degrees, and bright and sunny, perfect to be at the racetrack! If I can figure out how to do it again, I'll post a picture of us. Does anyone know what the website is to upload pics to to use on here?

About your future SIL - I only have my one boy and when he married the daughter of my DREAMS - well you know what I mean. I only wish I was in Tampa with them so I could spoil her. She is everything I ever wanted in a daughter and more. I even think she "gets" me. We text lots and because I know her bosses so well (my son and my ex) she and I laugh a lot. But I feel complete now - funny odd isn't it.

So happy for you. I love the horse races too, he will have a great time with you. Having the "son" you always wanted is wonderful....But hang on to those size 8 pants because becoming a Grandma is the greatest gift of all.
