Djburney's Journal, 02 October 2012

One week after my huge vacation bump, it's all gone, and I'm ready to hit a new low tomorrow. At least I know it can be done! I think that because of my very low-carb diet, I don't carry much extra water weight, and when I went back to eating bread and dessert, BOING, the water stuck. That is the only way I can explain gaining 12 pounds in one week and losing 12 pounds the next week. I'm ready to leave that topic, but I want to summarize what I learned, first.
1-It could be a lot easier than I thought to go back to my old ways of eating.
2-When I slip, get right back up immediately, don't wait.
3-Pounds on the scale are simply information, they have nothing to do with my value
4-When I reach maintenance, I am going to be able to treat myself once in a while because I know exactly what to do to fix the gain, and I can do it.

Ok, next topic...

At the conference, to entice people to visit my table, I had a big bowl of Halloween fun size candies. Nope, I didn't touch them, but I was reminded of how mindlessly I used to eat junk like that. People walk by, say hello, dig past the Skittles and Starburst to find the Snickers and M&M's, and just pop them in their mouth without even thinking about it, or even really enjoying it. Once the chocolate was gone, the fruity candies were just as enticing. Here's what I found out about those foods, and what kept me out of it: The chocolate fun-size candies have about 10 g of carbs and are about 80 calories. The fruit chew types have about the same calories but have 18 g of carbs! For just a few little bites! That's about half my daily allotment of carbs!

Was it wrong of me to put the candy out? I've never done it before at one of these conferences, and it really did help me get people at my table, although I can't say that we had meaningful conversations. I'm not sure if I will do it again at the next conference at the end of this month. What do you think?

Speaking of next conference...It will be October 28-30, so that gives me one month to lose even more. I know a lot more people at the October conference, and it is going to be gratifying to have the weight loss noticed again. Here's what I have to work on...how much value do I put on that? What if they don't notice or say anything? I think I'm ok with it, just enjoying it when they do. The main thing is that I feel so much better, and looking better is a side benefit.

Great to lose those 12 lbs!!! Good for you! About a week or so ago coworkers started mentioning that I look like I lost weight...duh you think...243 down to 213. That is 30 lbs. Anyway it has been awesome having people notice that I look better in my clothes. I still wear the same tops but my pants are all a size smaller. It is interesting to see who says anything about my weight loss. One coworker will frequently talk casually with me about clothes, the weather what we were having for lunch, etc. She has yet to mention anything about my weight loss. Oh well, just an observation. You are right - we are feeling and looking better no matter who else says so.
