kitty-eared-girl's Journal, 03 July 2012

I've noticed over the last few days that my body has been craving more calories than normal. I'm wondering if this is simply me having fat girl problems of always wanting to eat, or if it's a sign that my metabolism is starting to speed up a bit.

The rest of this week is going to be kind of a crapshoot as far as trying to diet goes. We've got a friend coming in for a visit over the weekend, and during the rest of the week before he gets here I'm scheduled as a double every day (meaning no energy left to exercise by the time I get home). I guess it helps that I'm constantly moving and on my feet at work, but I'm wondering how long that'll actually be good for before my body gets used to it.

I'm still toying with the food part of this. I think it was kingkeld that posted to remember that skinny people don't limit themselves on what they eat, but rather the portioning of it. Taking this into consideration, I've been allowing myself not-so-healthy foods so long as it was within my caloric goals for the day (ex. I had cheese dogs last night for dinner). Or, my boyfriend will pick up random candy bars occasionally when we go grocery shopping, from which I will allow myself a bite but not a whole one.

The goofy thing is, despite this, I've put myself at war with peanut butter. I ran out about two weeks ago now and have refused to pick up more since, despite having cravings for it every so often. It is the one food that I really can't seem to have control with. I will end up with the jar in my lap with a spoon as I sit on the couch watching something. I know the trick here is to not bring over the entire jar, because once you're done that's it...but I can never seem to do that. I've tried substitutes as well, all of which were horrible. The only one that I was able to tolerate long enough to finish was Golden Pea Butter, which is like having store-brand hot dogs after being used to kielbasa. There was one, "Walden Farms Whipped Peanut Spread", that was so awful that I actually took it back! I thought, reading the jar, that it'd be peanut butter with the consistency of whipped cream....I was right on the consistency, but the flavor was terrible.

Has anyone found a good, easy-to-access substitute for peanut butter? So far, the only decent substitute foods I've found are Wegmans (and my local grocery store also carries) Lite White Bread (something like 80 calories for TWO slices of bread!) and Kraft Fat Free Cheddar slices. These are a bit tricky, because eaten by themselves they're rather plastic-y. Melted they're not as bad, and they're only 25 calories a slice (compared to 80 from your average sliced cheese).

Peanut butter is one of my trigger foods. I can't stop with just one bite. If you find a good substitute, I will buy it, as well. So far, I have not found anything.

Hey lady! I bought this powdered peanut butter that you mix with 2 spoonfuls of water/add to recipes. They removed all the oil so it's way less fat than actual peanut butter. It's pretty cool. It's 45 calories per serving opposed to 180 for the same amount in regular peanut butter. Also 1.5g of fat compared to 16g. I use it in protein shakes/Thai noodles. Amazon sells double packs in regular flavor and coco for relatively cheap. The coco one is really great if you crave peanut butter cups. Hope that helps!

Oh it's called PB2, forgot to add that part!

I've bought PB2 as well after learning about it from buddies on here. It's not the same as real PB, but does still have the peanutty taste I think. Good for shakes & mixes amazing with banana cream pie yogurt!

LOVE the suggestion for the peanut butter. I use it in my morning peanut butter/banana protein shake. I LOVE peanut butter, but hate the fat/calories AND cleaning it off the measuring spoon. This will solve both problems. THANK YOU!

Will be checking into that shortly! Thank you Nat!
