I hurt my back doing bootcamp. I was told that I should only swim for the next week. I'm depressed and trying not to eat my sadness. since I can't do the rigorous exercise I had been doing I have no choice but to focus on my diet. It is all so difficult.

It is difficult. I hear you there. I hurt my back moving some furniture and haven't been able to workout for the past ten days or so. I'm not even able to swim. But I've still continued to lose weight. All that said, to say, you can do this. Don't be depressed. Weight loss can still happen if you simply stick to your plan. You will heal and be back at it soon enough. Do not lose ground by eating your sadness. It is not worth it. All the best.

THank you HardDaysKnight for the encouraging words. I am sorry to hear about your back problems. I wish you well. I appreciate hearing that I can still lose weight as long as I stick to my diet plan. I guess I went straight to discouragement because I have not been doing well with my dieting. I have been relying on exercise to make up for my shortcomings with my diet. Thanks for the reality check, I needed it.

Maxie4, I can always count on you to keep me encouraged. I appreciate that. On a positive note; I have no choice but to get it together with my diet. I have been slacking off a lot, but no more.

Bizzybee38– with your back, can you actually swim? Do you have a pool available like a fitness center, Y, Salvation Army? If you do, swimming burns off a lot of calories and you can go at a nice gentle pace. I swim 2 hours every morning at a comfortable, relaxing pace and it still burns off 400 plus calories. I don’t do it for weight loss but for mental relaxation. I just zone out. Give it a try. Don’t try to do 2 hours but get in the water and just walk.

I would recommend swimming, period. Much easier on your joints, etc.

Thank you for your comment Kenna Morton. I am actually on an adult swim team. I have been foregoing practice on Mon, Wed and Thurs for other activities, but I will be back on Monday. I am sure my coach will be happy to see me back. GRRRR. Swimming is NOT my favorite and I wish that I could "zone out" but I always focus on what I am doing wrong in every stroke.

GGreen67- You are correct that swimming is the best and is an all over body workout, but I really don't enjoy it. I wish that I did. Perhaps with the weather getting warmer it will be easier to get into the pool.
