I am trying to get motivated to go to the gym today. I got the dog groomed, and ate lunch, now I am just waiting for two hours to pass so I can test my blood and then hopefully I'll go. I ate a salad at Doc Greens for lunch - it was delicious, a Dr. Ranchero - bbq chicken with corn, beans and peppers in ranch dressing over romaine. I really don't feel too deprived eating a salad for meals all the time, because I really grew up on it. I have been reading a lot of articles about what is making poor people obese. That there are a lot of obese people who are hungry in America today. The food that poor people can afford is TERRIBLE for you, and plus when they use food banks, they get terrible food again. Poor people cannot really afford good fresh fruits and vegetables, or leaner meats. I cannot imagine what it would be like to have diabetes and be so poor you needed to use a food bank. They would give you peanut butter, crappy bread, a couple of cans of tuna, pasta, potted meat, vienna sausages, some canned vegetables. I know that I am spending over 100 dollars a week just on food for me and I get tons of produce and lean meats, and special bread and special pasta and special you name it. Hell, the salad I ate for lunch cost me ten dollars! I am spoiled, and I would only describe myself as barely middle class. I wish there was some kind of national program that would promote good food awareness, healthy food in food banks, and healthy cooking and shopping to those who are food poor. I think it's a several pronged approach, and not just one thing is going to help. I also think it's a national crisis, with so many poor children, so many obese children, and so many children now getting type 2 diabetes. I think the taxpayers are going to have to pay for this health crisis in one way or another, and I think taking action to address it now is smarter than twenty years from now when we have millions and millions of obese, sick people without health insurance in our emergency rooms - oh, wait, we have that now!
