DairyKing's Journal, 04 June 2012

Woke up to an elbow prodding me, and the sound of the ship's General Quarters alarm ringing in my ear. False alarm. I hit the snooze button. Again the elbow. OK; up at 3:40 and out the door at 4:00 for a 3.7 mile run. Went down to feed the Labs; just wanted to lie down on the floor and go to sleep. However, only one thing happens when you lie down on the floor in the presence of 2 Labs - they want to play. And play we did. Now I'm sleepier than I was before. Up to make the coffee and give the cat and the dog their meds. You don't know how many times I've considered drinking one of those 5-hour energy drinks; just don't want to get into the habit.

It's amazing how long it is taking to get back up to speed, after neglecting my workouts for only a week and a half since the race. I remember when I was doing the Jillian Michaels treadmill routines with all the hills, and how easy it was to transition to running on the pavement. I thought she was a ruthless %@$%*!, so I stopped the program and started running with the incline set at 0%. I got good at doing 10 mile runs on the treadmill. I could run an 8:00 minute mile again. But, I found out that I had lost my stamina. I don't want to find myself in that situation again. This time, I will ensure that I take my run outside periodically to check my myself against any treadmill training; and for those extended periods of inclement weather that we sometimes experience here in Illinois, I will do the Jillian Michaels type treadmill workouts. Hoorah!

DW goes for the 1st of the supposedlymilder chemo drugs this morning. She has these for 12 straight weeks, and then starts the daily radiation treatments for 5 weeks. Then, hopefully, we can move on with life. She'll have more energy, and I can get more rest. It's not that I'll get up any later in the morning, but when I'm ready to go to bed at 10:00 at night, I need to be getting in bed at 10:00 at night. It just seems lately that there is always some crisis that just has to happen about the time I'm going to bed. Even if it only costs me a half-hour, it disrupts my whole bio clock. I routinely operate on a marginal amount of sleep as it is. Oh well; it is what it is.

Now, I need to get back to work, and let some of my FS friends spout off. Toodles!

tsk tsk - you set that treadmill to .5-1% to simulate outside groudn running. My guru explained that to me.

I applaud you for getting up so early to exercise. Good for you! I hope your wife begins to feel some relief soon, and I hope you get more sleep.

Thank you for the funny words of wisdom over on my journal. A sense of humor really helps in all circumstances -- when it is appropriate. As for Jillian - she comes across like a bad butt but her work outs do work. I kind of like the music in her "30 Day Shred" DVD.

I give you credit on ALL the things you do on your minimal amount of sleep. I don't know how you do it. I know you'll be back on track on your workouts as soon as you get started. You were killing it before so your body will get use to it that much sooner. Glad to hear wifey is making progress on the treatments. How has she been. You guys are in my prayers....As for your question on my journal...you are so right...the evening snacking is out of boredom. I'm working on asking myself how hungry I am before opening my mouth. I'm a work in progress.

Gosh, DK, you and your wife are going through so much. It pains me to hear it. You both are strong and blessed to have one another. I so wish there was something I could do.

Hope DW treatment goes well today.... Know what you mean about trying to get back into training... As soon as you "wind down" it's so much harder to get back into it.
