I don't know how many of you are familiar with White Castle Hamburgers, but I've loved them since I was a kid and we simply called them, 12 cent hamburgers. I pass within a few minutes of no less than three White Castle restaurants on my way home from work, every day, and though I've been craving the scrumptous little sliders they serve, for more than six months, I usually have the strength to say no, and continue on my way home. Well, I couldn't fight it any longer, caved in, and decided to get that monkey off my back. :-) On my way home from a Doctor's appointment, I figured I might as well stop, get a few, and not have to worry about it again for another year; since it's been about that long since I've had them. Wouldn't you know it, as soon as I walked up to the counter, in the restaurant, to make my order, the power went out in the building. LOL Maybe I should have taken that as a hint that it still wasn't my day to have them, but right then, another customer was at the drive through window getting their order, and with the power out, and the registers being computerized, the restaurant manager just gave them their burgers for free. Being a witness to this, they asked me what I wanted, I said, "Four cheese burgers and an order of fries". They said no problem, since the oil was still hot enough to cook the fries, and the burgers were already cooked; then they told me as well, " Don't worry about it", so I got my order for free too. What a surprise! Maybe I shouldn't have had them at all, but they were tasty, I finally got that monkey off my back, and if I only cave in once a year; I can live with that. I'll get back on track right away, and not have to worry about a major binge, as I use to down ten of those tasty little jewels plus the fries and a large drink. No guilt, it's over and done with; back to my mission.;-)

The power outage sounds like a sign for sure! But I never pass up free food. Not a single White Castle in my state. I was forced to try the chicken rings when I lived in MN. meh...

White Castles, eh? I am from Indiana and I remember in college driving from Terre Haute to Indianapolis after a night of drinking to eat those delicious little sliders...70 miles between the two cities. Later in life I was thrilled to see them frozen in the grocery stores..now, I think I have moved beyond them but your entry sure conjured up some memories. Please tell me that my memory of them is tastier than they reallly are....LOL.

LOL! I don't know, my memory is pretty vivid as well, and while living in California, for twenty two years, even though they showed up in the frozen section of the grocery store, I refused to buy them, after one try, because the real thing is much better than the frozen ones; they leave out the onions, plus they are more expensive. So, I usually waited until I made trips back home to the Mid-West, to get the real thing; and yeah, it was worth the wait. :-)

White Castles, we used to eat them all the time in Cincinnati. Jim's mom was manager in one. They used to be about 7 cent, maybe less. For years, when we visited family there, we would get a bag of them and take them back to our Motel. The other thing they are famous for is Cincinnati Chili.
