You can do this! I was diagnosed with type two diabetes last March. I am 78 years old. I was not active and ate whatever appealed to me. I began walking using a Walkingstick to stay balanced. It took me an hour and a half to walk a mile and a half. I kept going, walking every day. Today I am Powerwalking to music, covering a mile and a half and 27 minutes. I have lost 27 pounds. All my blood work is now in a pre-diabetic range. My motivation and goal is to avoid the horrible complications of diabetes. If I can do this you can to. Keep your goals in mind. Be patient. Let your progress be your motivation. All of us on Fat secret will support your efforts. I am so proud of you for beginning to change the things in your life that make you unhappy. Keep going and soon you will feel the joy. Congratulations! Let us know how you are doing.

I set a daily goal of 1500 cal and measured my food amounts. Got myself some bright colored measuring cups and spoons. Followed a diabetic diet - low-carb high-protein lowfat balanced meals. I kept a journal of what I ate each meal and how I felt after each meal. It can be time-consuming, but it helped to be able to look back as I lost weight and see what it was that I was eating. It also helped to journal proposed meals and that way I shopped for the right foods and kept them on hand. Then I discovered Fat Secret to help with journaling. I found that I could eat almost anything, just not a lot of anything. My salvation was sugar-free chocolate pudding and low cal, fat free whipped topping as well as sugar-free Jell-O. Chocolate ice Popsicles also helped with my sweet tooth, but did not damage my weight loss. Fat Secret has been a BIG help with keeping track of calorie and nutritional intake. Best "app" ever... And great support from members. Thank you one and all.

Welcome! You have definitely come to the right place to get all the support you need in your weight loss journey.
Affirmations are a great way to help build up your self-esteem. Maybe look up some great one's online that will give you the encouragement you need and say them out loud while looking in the mirror, trust me you will feel better each day once you do these continously. Good luck to you and make it a GREAT day!

Welcome. I am fairly new. I have been here after regaining about 15 pounds. I find it helps to keep a cute hairstyle, apply makeup and a bit of jewelry. That way when you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror at least you feel groomed and lovely. Good luck! Be patient with yourself. Often we are too hard on ourselves. I read posts a few weeks ago of several women who could of had my mother. It seems most of us got very negative comments when we were no longer a "little" Princess due to teenage growth, pregnancy, or whatever. Oh and menopause really messes up things for most of us. The doctors call it the menopot. The beta blockers, for your heart, etc. put on weight. Be vigilant - - drink your water, walk the dog, take a bubble bath when you want to eat junk. It helps chase the pounds away.

Good luck to you. Today is also my first day. I decided to start because I'm a diabetic with severe nerve pain, and 5 herniated discs in my back. I have a hard time exercising because of the pain.

Welcome! I also tend to avoid people while being overweight. I have found that the outdoors are the most comforting place for me to exercise. My gym membership is going to waste because I choose to walk the canal vs. a treadmill now. You are starting on the right foot now keep on going!
