ShyGuy's Journal, 15 March 2012

After having a talk with my brother, while taking him to the airport, about the benefits of exercise on my weightloss; I went to my favorite indoor track, and walked 3 miles, for the first time since I started working out again. It took me an hour and a half, and my knees are sore for my efforts, but I'm happy I did it. I guess I had to prove, to myself, that I could do it. I'm considering cutting back my distance to two miles, because the pain didn't start until I got well into the third mile; by which time I just refused to give up. Hopefully, a painkiller, will offer some relief, so I won't be discouraged from further trips to the track. I'll just have to work my way back up to three miles. I guess it was the music, I was listening to, that contributed to the extra distance; I was even dancing around the track for part of that third mile. LOL :-) Thank god I was the only one up there at the time; they probably would have thought I was crazy, or scared off my my singing. LOL If my knees can handle it, I'll be out walking again, Saturday morning, this time with the dog, and for a shorter distance. I hope everyone is having a great day. :-)

You should always start small and add on with exercise. Start with a mile and slowly add on from there. You have to build endurance.

Good job making it through! Pushing a little isn't a bad thing, just make sure you give yourself time to recover. Who cares if they think you're crazy! Dance and sing your heart out :D

Suzi: I will be starting with less distance, the 3 miles were too much for my knees, at least it was today. Dani: Pushing through was interesting, but I would rather work my way back up, as my weight goes down, there will be less pressure on them. Actually, I don't care if they think I'm crazy; if dancing and singing helps me get through my workouts, then they better be ready for a performance. LOL Bren: There's nothing wrong with us dancers, if it makes the heart happy, let's dance on. Lortab? I guess I'll have to google it, cause I've never heard of it before. Thanks for your responses.

You made me smile reading this. :) Great job on the 3 miles! That's a huge accomplishment. Glad you're giving yourself a break and working your way back up. And I sing/groove when I walk too. Sometimes even during normal, everyday walking (example, down the street from my car to work) I find myself skipping and humming. Hope your knees have forgiven you by tomorrow.
