Two things I have learned.

1. Bulletproof Coffee makes me hungry - odd I know - I had some for supper/dinner last evening - made the way Mr. Bulletproof says - and I was hungry in the night, which I'm not usually.

2. Nuts put weight on me. While they're good to stay in ketosis, I weigh heavier the morning after eating them.

Other than that life in the sleepy madhouse that is Kingsmead Farm goes on apace - a slow pace.

Morning all.

This does not make sense to me, perhaps I am not reading it correctly. You say you are eating nuts, surely this is a well-known food for putting weight on. You say you are in ketosis. I understand ketosis to mean your body is surviving by consuming fat. I also believe that ketosis can be dangerous for those who have diabetes. You weight graph is showing no weight loss whatsoever since January 3rd so how is this ketosis supposed to work. With your weight history showing an abysmal failure FS members continue to support you often saying you are doing great. I know and understand that losing weight is not easy and I know some people find it impossible due to a lack of will power which is not a fault it is part of their make up. I honestly feel you should now give some serious thought as to what you want from FS. If it is support in losing weight, then there is no shortage of that but if it is anything other than support you are in the wrong forum. Another point I feel you should give some thought to is happiness and contentment. You can spend your life worrying about your weight and “saying” you want to lose it. This can make you happy if you are successful but it can make you bloody miserable if you are failing. Is it worth the misery, think about it. I know I will be told I am being brutal or harsh but it is not meant to be that way I want to be totally honest with you not giving you support for failing and failing you are for whatever reason.

Type 1 diabetes, the diabetes you are linking Ketosis to, is completely different from Type 2 diabetes. Ketosis, and intermittent fasting, is fast becoming the accepted method to reverse Type 2

IWW I think you are mistaking ketosis for ketoacidodis (the latter can be life threatening to diabetics) Minitata...did you look into the seated exercises?

Whatever I am getting confused with makes little or no difference to poor Mini who has not lost anything at all since she started in January. This Ketosis thing is a fat eater or supposed to be a fat eater yet Mini has achieved nothing at all. Mini says she is also fasting yet with no success with weight loss. There just has to be another reason for Mini not losing anything at all since January 3rd this reason must be identified and resolved probably by a professional and not by so called experts on FS. Telling Mini she is doing so well is not telling her the truth, she is just not doing well at all she needs help, the correct help from real experts who know what they are talking about. The saying “what’s good for the goose is good for the Gander” is just not true here. You all may well have success in the way you have approached your weight problem but poor Mini has not. There may even be a medical condition or some other inner problem but one thing is clear, she is failing and needs to be told so she can seek the correct assistance whatever that turns out to be.

My weight hasn't gone down, but I've gone down over a size in my jeans - waist size, bra - back size and my stomach has reduced by over 2 inches. The weight will follow. My diabetes has gone from tablets every day to diet only. Before I joined here I'd lost 5 stone - 30 kilos over a couple of years, so things were bound to slow down. I'm happy as long as my blood sugar is good and things move slowly.

I'm 5 ft 7 inches. I just need to get another stone off to be happy - I know that I'm fighting my set weight which I had managed to reduce from 224 lbs to 198. I'd like to reduce that to around the 185 which will mean going below it and fighting to stay there - which is sort of what I'm doing. I've never been lighter than I am now as an adult - at 14 I weighed 195 lbs on average and I'm 62 now. I've been on so many calorie restricted diets that I can now maintain my weight on 1000 calories a day - the doctor didn't believe it until he had me in hospital and saw for himself. It's a struggle - but it feels worthwhile - and in the end it will work - if it takes the next 10 years, I will reduce my set weight.

Well done on losing inches whichever way your weight is going, you're obviously doing something right. Keep going Mini, you'll get there as long as you don't give up. I know, I know, cliches but sometimes it can be so easy to give up if what we expect doesn't show up.

Nuts are very calorific. And it is so easy to eat far too many in one go. I stick to seeds, not so snackable but super good for you.

Minitata: What IF regime are you using?
28 Feb 17 by member: JockoT
I'm most definitely no expert but I'd say Minitata that you have managed to achieve something quite important .. you were maintaining weight at 1000 cals average, and are now maintaining weight at 1700 (glance-average) - this must surely mean your metabolism has been shifted up quite a few gears by the food choices you've been making. Now you might begin to see reductions in calories lead to reductions in weight (whereas before it probably just led to increased lethargy). As for nuts its definitely easy to eat too many but as you are recording foods you're safe there, it might just be that they are a salty food and creating a bit of water retention?

It's the carbs nowadays for me. If I can keep those down I can eat more calories, I'd read that either cheese or nuts would be likely to put weight on - I try not to eat both of them on the same day - and for me I'm pretty sure it's nuts. Low Carb High Fat and Intermittent Fasting have certainly helped my metablolism.

JockoT I'm following the Dr Fung way of doing - I found him on dietdoctor.com and then Intensive Dietary Management. I've read a lot around the subject - starting with Gary Taubes, Dr. Bernstein (amazing man, nearly 70 years type 1 diabetic and not only still alive, but without diabetes related problems), Barry Groves, oh and many others. They've really turned my world around. I'm more alert than I've been in donkey's years, I've cut back on my codeine tablets, I'm trying to cut back on tramadol this week too. I'm off my diabetes medication and a nerve block pain reliever (well down from 100 mg to 10 mg).

I know we're mainly here for weight loss Minitata, but the general improvements you're describing are, to my mind, worth their weight in gold. We might not be getting all the improvements we want but any improvement is a good one. @ARB - that's a great observation - maintenance at 1700 Calories vs. maintenance at 1000.

I believe everyone who has commented is doing their best to be supportive of what you may need for future success. Weight loss is not all I'm here for, for instance, but I'm also here for holistic wellness. If you're achieving goals there, I applaud you.

I'm with you revvit, I need the holistic wellness too. I would like to lose more weight - and I will - but it's not the be all and end all of it. Having watched my father, and now my brother, not look after themselves with their diabetes and getting problems, I'm determined not too.

Mini - I'm right in there with you. You've lost a lot over the long run, and you've improved your health considerably. You're eating the healthiest way you know of, and so I see only positives. The weight will budge when it will, and in the meantime you are optimizing your health. It's not fake support for failing weight loss, it's real support for optimizing your health.

Great thoughts here! And holistic health is so essential. My husband once commented on current societies propensity to try to "drug ourselves healthy" ...
