I'm getting really frustrated by the fact that I've been working so hard and consistently gaining weight. I cannot reasonably eat less then I'm eating(my average is between 600-700 cal/day), that would be insane, and I simply don't have the time to work out more than I do.

Have you tried intermittent fasting?

I used to be anorexic so fasting leads me into trouble.

Oh..I see.. But just read up on 14hrs fasting and 10hrs eating.. It does wonders. or for beginners you can do 12hrs fasting 12hrs eating. But don't go over your calorie count for the day.

If it still doesn't help then maybe something else is wrong..Have you went to see a doctor about the weight gain?

Hopefully, he can change your medication to one that won't make you gain weight.

Try tracking your macros. You should never eat below your body weight X 10%. Example: If I weigh 150lbs, I wouldnt eat less than 1500 calories per day.

I agree with tracking your macros (protein, fat, carbs) perhaps your body is in a state of unbalance and you are holding onto weight for that reason. I would also eat at least 1200-1400 calories a day. Too many carbs causes water retention as well. Try IIFYM Women group on facebook for more information on macros :)

Oh wow! i feel your frustration. When you do work out, do you vary the types of things you do? Or do you vary the intensity? when i was having trouble with my work outs a few years ago, one of my instructors told me about speeding up during my work outs and then slowing down. I think he called it intermittant training. Don't quote me on that it was a few years ago. I was using a recumbant bike for exercise then, too. I still do it today especially when i get bored with the bike. Good luck at the Dr.'s I'm praying for you.

It sounds to me like you might not be eating enough. I know for some people that's hard to understand, but it's often true!

Eating too little can cause your metabolism to shut down to conserve energy. Look into a low carb high fat diet LCHF (dietdoctor.com or Atkins). I'm guessing you'd be happier with the results if you flip the macros, so that you are eating more fat and less carbs. It's easier to follow and works well for many of the dieters here. Worth a try?

high fat is going to eat up her calories very quickly and is your body's main source of energy. your metabolism is shutting down, low carb is a trick that will help you not be hungry but it is just that, a trick. you should be eating no less than 1200 calories every day, your body is eating its muscle (your heart is a muscle not a good situation) the minute you start eating you will most likely gain the muscle back (and the weight, don't be discouraged.) most likely w/o your specific age/height you want to be eating more about 1300-1400 calories per day but 1200 is an absolute minimum. at your weight, if you do this you will melt away super fast. Losing more than 2 pounds a week is going to cause muscle loss, however, and shut down your metabolism. I know this is hard but you want to go about this with the mind set that this is a marathon not a sprint. balance your macros because your body needs all of it. low carb will make you tired. low protein is a typical american diet and will increase the risk of muscle loss. low fat will cause you to have difficulty concentrating as fat regulates your hormones. I've been a personal trainer for years and have helped many many people lose weight in my town. working out at this level of calories is dangerous. look for low calorie filling meals (cup of peas is 60 calories and two Tbs of peanut butter is 200 calories. difference is the peas are low fat.) its all about balance. If i were training you i would reccomend no less than 40g of fat every day 80g of carbs and 100g of protein. the rest you get to choose. I know you want to lose fat quick. I was in a car wreck last august and couldnt work out for a year. I look amazing compared to last month. exercise is for gaining muscle (you want this but your body will retain water if you do and will make the scale misleading, remember it measures total body mass not the lean muscle/fat content of your body) cardio will really help at the end AFTER you plateau and you wont for quite some time if you choose to follow my advice. Stretching will help you so much if you have back/shoulder/knee pain, very common in this field. 86% of americans will have lower back pain by their mid 20's because of tight quad/hamstring/calve muscles. I've been doing this for a long time, I understand what's going on with your body and I know how frustrating it can be. If you want to talk more just let me know.

high fat is going to eat up her calories very quickly and CARBS ARE* your body's main source of energy. I should have proof read.

I can't imagine how tired frustrated and irritated you must be, you've already done the first step to making your body what you want it to be and your determination is admirable. keep up the good work.

It is possible you are eating too little and your body is holding on to every calorie.

Eat more greens (lettuce, brocolli, cucumbers,...) and no carbs (NO pasta, NO rice, No bread, No corn, No tortillas, No Hummus) ... and a lot of proteins (over 100 grams a day: egg whites and whey shakes low on sugars -- less than 5 grams of carbs) Easy on fats (oil). You should be eating about 1500 calories (normal for an active woman is about 2000). And Exercise

I agree with Erika. Increase your fat calories.

The lowest % of your intake should be carbs. Carbs=bad, protein=best, fat=good... shy away from transfats.

carbs are NOT bad. fruits and vegetables are absolutely necessary, lower the likelyhood of cancer (so long as you buy organic, you can get away with not doing so if you dont eat the skin ie banana or watermelon if you have to choose.) fiber almost always comes in the form of carbs it will keep you full and is your muscles source of energy. the reason this misinformation is spread from atkins to maxim is because it leaves the blame on you. youre not going to want to eat if you have to eat protein and fat all day, because your body will be CRAVING carbs, and theres a reason for that CARBS ARE NECESSARY. Lets say you get your body to ketosis, right? thats when your body starts using protein for energy instead of carbs. youre going to feel tired, agitated, hungry, and HATE DIETING. dont make dieting a huge thing, youre not going to lose fat in 30 days like the people in commercials that are low carb low water high diuretic. they are not healthy, why are we doing this? why are we dieting? two reasons that are the same to look hott or to be healthy. the thing is they are the same thing, you look good because youre healthy and you look healthy because you look good. i've been doing this for a long time guys, trust me, there is a lot of information on dieting and exercise that is meant to make you feel like you cant do it. when you give up you binge and gain all that weight back plus some until youre motivated again. then you try the 'NEW' cottage cheese only diet. remember that shit from the 90's? it hospitalized a lot of people. cutting out one macro can help just the same way fasting can, but it can do more damage than good. your body isn't meant to run on protein or fat. i can link to multiple studies if you like and send you pictures straight from afpa certification books. but nothing compares to my experience with others and myself.
