I think I have major sinus issues because everyday I am stuffed up even with taking Claritin, and it makes me have sinus headaches or sometimes migraines and today is one of those migraine days. They make me so nauseous. I don't know what to do, Tylenol isn't touching it and ibuprofen makes me feel even more sick :( The migraine pills my doctor gave me make me pass out and so do pain killers. Today is going to suck...

I have the same problem I take medication specifically for sinus pain and headache. There are many brands. There is something in it that helps reduce sinus pressure which in turn helps relieve the pain. I also will try two different kinds of pain meds (like Alleve and ibupren). I watch how much I take all day though to stay within the restrictions.

Suzi- Do you take it daily? Because I have not had full breathing ability through my nose since I can remember to be honest...

Ask your doctor about a preventative migraine medicine. I take Topamax - it is a stimulant and it is meant to prevent migraines... I went from 3-4 a week to 3-4 a year! Brilliant stuff. For the sinus issue, I wake up every morning with my face feeling full off garbage. But I get into the steamy hot shower and blow and blow and blow until there is abosultely nothing left. Kinda gross, but very much helpful to me. From what I hear, Excederin Sinus works great and is also a stimulant. No drowsiness allowed in the life of a mommy!

Michelle- My doctor gave me Imitrex but it makes me feel so gross and knocks me out so I can't take it until bedtime and it is a rare occasion I want to feel that bad just to get rid of my migraine. As for Excederin, I used to take it but heard it's bad while doing Atkins because of the aspirin being a blood thinner, Or else I would be more than willing to try that. Something has got to work...

I have migraines. I take Imitrex. Topamax can help, but expect drowsiness and a lingering tired feeling. I take Melatonin now, but there is the side effect of vivid dreams and some tiredness upon awakening. But I feel better and am on a strong dose. First, I would try Excedrin - it has caffeine in it. Or buy some caffeine pills and take a few upon awakening - alternate aspirin (if you can take it) with Tylenol. Be sure not to take more than a few thousand milligrams of Tylenol a day, it can be unhealthy at high doses every day - and if you take Tylenol be cautious you're not taking cold medicines with Tylenol (acetaminophen) in them also...

Glenn- I have to find something that doesn't make me drowsy because I have 2 young children and I am a single mother. I have been already having some weird dreams lately without taking any unusual meds lol. I basically spend my day taking extra strength Tylenol for the everyday headaches/migraines that I have, I try to keep it to only 2 doses (one when I wake up and one before bed...depending on how bad I feel). I didn't mind taking the Excedrin but I was told the aspirin isn't good...

I would take caffeine pills if you've got kids. Of course you have to take it regularly or else you can get rebound headaches. You can take Naproxen generic - it's the same as Alleve but less expensive. There is also generic ibuprofen, be sure it's coated; it is known commonly as Advil or Motrin - just take a caffeine pill with one of these meds. If you're not a coffee drinker strong iced tea in the morning can help too. If you become too irritable then it is likely you have taken too much caffeine. Try chamomile tea before bed - I make it iced - and I drink a lot of it before bedtime and it helps me relax, it is a good stress reliever at the end of the day. It isn't the best tasting tea but it will help you rest if you've been taking caffeine during the day... there are also other meds like Inderal and Elavil that can help migraines but they didn't help me but may help you, talk to your doctor if you have to...

Thanks Glenn, Ibuprofen and naproxen give me an upset stomach, but I have always been fond of tea and some coffee more recently, so maybe I'll just make sure to drink some everyday while taking the Tylenol and I will talk to my doctor about maybe a different migraine medication besides the Imitrex :)

Nothing helped me until the Melatonin. I had a two-month long migraine too that was making my life unmanageable. I had no choice but to take something not usually recommended. Severe migraines every day for months and you won't care if you have a little drowsiness, my life was a complete mess and I could not function - when you get to that point you may seek other different meds even if their side effects are not ideal.

Yea I understand, it's been about 8 years dealing with these migraines and trying to find a solution and the last 5 years I've had to worry about the effects on my children as well. It's still a work in progress that's for sure...
