Deborahg382's Journal, 19 June 2016

I lost 50 lbs and gained back 30. It took me over 2 years to lose 50 and a few months go gain the 30. I used intermittent fasting, fat fasting and low carb diet to lose. My cholesterol really went up so I worried over it and after two years I was burnt on not having those things with carbs in it.

I went vegetarian for 6 weeks or so. I REALLY enjoy the new love affair I have with fruit. But I have not been able to lose weight on a high carb, low fat diet. So I am trying something new. I have decided to go back to intermittent fasting and go back to doing fat fast. But on my non-fasting days I will do high carb [fruit] and low fat. I will definitely calorie count.

I take medication that makes weight loss a struggle. Its the reason why it took SO long to drop just 50 lbs. I've managed to maintain my weight as of late. Currently I'm on day 2 of a fast. This will be day 1 of my new diet plan. I have no idea how the combining the two different diet styles will play out in real life. I feel good that I am back in the right mind set to begin the weight loss again.

Lets see how this plays out. Nothing ventured nothing gained or rather lost..lol

Deborah, so I understand from my reading of Dr. Fung's book, any real whole food diet you combine with IF will result in a weight loss, his theory, all foods can make you fat if your insulin levels remain high, so if you diminish your insulin levels then it really does not matter what your meals consist of with the exception of processed sugary, starchy foods. So I believe you have a recipe for success there :) Here's to your success!

Hm. I was hoping that life after intermittent fasting would be normal eating. Your story gives me pause. Knowing Dr. Fung, who is normal weight still fasts, I should have taken away the idea that intermittent fasting will be the way of maintenance as well. I wish you well on our common journey.

Lady, what I took away from the reading is that the human body is not truly designed to eat as much or as frequently as what we are being told that it does, so that would lead me to believe that IF would be a permanent manner of eating...or not eating as it were....

Thank you. I appreciate your warm comments. I'm ready mentally to get back in there and be focused. I burnt out, I like this approach because I flip flop between two extremes. I hope my body responds in kind! We'll see. I will post my results as the week(s) go by. :)

We all have fallen down at least once. It's not falling that loses the battle, it's not getting back up! Kudos to you! Have you ever looked into the Bulletproof diet? Might be a good fit for you. Good luck on your journey!

Yw, Deborah, but that's only part of it. There is a whole lot more to that particular plan. 1) It gives lists if foods from "safest" to "cryptonite". 2) Carbs (if any) are eaten at last meal 3) One day a week is a protein fast/Carb load. You'd have to read the book to fully understand.

I've had a very similar experience to yourself. From January 2014 - April 2015 I lost 100 lb by Low Carbing (Atkins) and VLCD'ing. Then hit a wall, just couldn't go on any longer. Gave in to real chocolate! lol! and it was all down hill from there. Pretty much gained back in 6 months what took me a year to lose, & haven't been able to get my head back in the game since. So I totally commend you for being able to continue on a different path after hitting that wall. Speaking from experience, really hard to get past that wall and back at it again.

Ebivr it's been hard. Watching the weight come back. I'm in a panic to avoid meeting that number on the scale. I think doing two approaches will help me not feel deprived.

@Deborah, You could always come over to our clubhouse. LCHF, with IF. Our results speak volumes. Just look at Phil, lol. And in another 6 months, ill probably be 150 down total. Dunno.

Deborah and ebivr, I am not going to lie. Your stories scare me. I easily put myself in your shoes and the thought that my body may not reset itself to a lower healthy weight is just unacceptable to me.

@LADY... no need to be afraid, but go in with your eyes WIDE open. This is not a quick fix. If you carb intolerance was the reason behind your gaining in the first place, you WILL gain it back if you go back to old habits. It's not because LC created the problem. The problem was always there. Lc is a treatment, not a cure.

Same story here Ebivr. Lose then gain it all back plus more. I did it 3 times. I can't even do it again. Won't even attempt it. The mental thing is scary real. I got did in last time by a PB&J.

@Lady... It's just like sanding down a red car, painting it blue, painting it back red, and then wondering why it's red again.

It never hurts to try it out. I think we all need to find the path that we can stick with long term. Good luck, I hope it works for you!
