Today when I got home from work, I was hungry so I grabbed my usual snack out of the refrigerator and popped some olives in my mouth, usually this stops the gnawing in my tummy...but today it was like NO! An image of meat was hovering in my head. Since Friday when I had half a cup of mixed nuts and called it a day, Saturday I fasted till my eating window on Sunday, Sunday I did 1230 calorie salad with a skin on chicken breast, Monday ended up being a 2nd fasting day followed by another 1,000 calorie salad with a skin on chicken breast. Today my body wanted meat and that is all it wanted. No green stuff whatsoever! I had a Smoked Boston Butt Roast that I bought from a church fund raiser, I sliced of two medium slices, grabbed a hard-boiled egg out of the bag of 18 I cooked Sunday and chased that with a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter.....it stopped, I was full..done! Does anyone else get cravings for meat only? I had it happen a week or two ago and I ended up snarfing two Bubba Burger avocado lettuce wraps. I don't recall having protein cravings my first time around, I still average between 17% and 22% protein in my daily intake. The first time was when we were fencing the 1st pasture and I did quite a bit of fencing this weekend. Things that make you go Hmmmmmmm...

I have experienced meat craving like that. I have also experienced salt craving.

My cravings (when I have them) usually involve some type of chocolate :) I don't recall ever being intensely attracted to meat to the exclusion of everything else. The burgers I ate with the avocado and lettuce just because it seemed civilized to pretty them up and make them neat....tonight I had no compunctions at all with grabbing it with my fingers and just eating meat! So unlike me! I reminded myself of the kitten I rescued a week or so ago, growling while eating. I wonder if my body is lacking protein? I don't see why it would...my daily average is 44 grams per day, that seems more than adequate.

should not be Carmen, been eating raw spinach in my salads, I don't take vitamins anymore....I've put them on the processed foods list....

My chocolate cravings occurred mostly when I was PMSing, I think menopause has taken care of that one, no cycles since January but I was hot-flashing like crazy before March when I got back on track with LCHF. Eh, who knows right? Our bodies are amazing machines and I guess sometimes it just wants to be carnivorous.

maybe you was craving FAT instead of protein.

Hey Peaches! I think if I was craving fat, I would have had avocados and olives dancing around in my head instead of a picture of a huge juicy rack of ribs.....I don't have any ribs right now. The Boston butt did have a nice fatty layer but I peeled it off and just went after the meat, I made myself eat the peanut butter to increase my fat intake a bit, I just could not stomach anything green

Ohhh yeah Deb. Some days I feel downright ravenous for meat. I usually just go to Wendy's and get a double Baconator with cheese and no bun, and a small side salad with Italian dressing. It hits the spot.

Ah, yes, meat cravings: for me, they're the WORST cravings ever.

Do you guys have any idea what triggers them? I have not a clue! I finally managed to convince myself to eat an avocado so I got my calories up to 900...sheesh! You would think I'm trying to feed myself arsenic the way I was trying to avoid green things

Well the science behind it says when you have a HEAVY craving it is usually triggered when your body is deficient in something. Possibly IRON or some other element found in meat. dunno. I don't really eat a lot of red meat. But like I said, if I crave it, I hit Wendy's. And its usually gone for a couple weeks.

I read when the body has remained at a certain weight for a long period of time (i.e., 200 lbs for years) that after you've lost weight your body & mind fights to get back up to that 200lbs. Hence, cravings to take more food. Protein usually stops mine, but not today. I'm fighting every minute. Just popped more tilapia in the oven.

Hmmm I usually eat liver every other week but I didn't have any last week because I was trying to avoid the onion trap.....those sweet onions are so freakin good and they send my carbs up like a rocket. Guess I need to do some more, just in case my iron is down. We don't eat a lot of red meat, not because we don't like it...but because I won't pay 7 bucks a pound for crappy low-grade steak, that's why we are raising our own beef.

Avocados yum. and a healthy FAT. we usually share 1 every day and for the last few weeks they have been .50 cent, so we load up. just cut in half salt and pepper and enjoy eat out of the peel with a spoon.

Hey Deb, you mention iron and possibly being low...Going through menopause is going to affect that, you probably won't be needing additional iron. Just eat your liver and onions for the fun of it... in moderation of course! ;)

I crave meat ... I thought it was normal. Ha Ha! There are 5 brain nutrients only found in red meat, too. Red meat contains a number of B vitamins: thiamin (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2), pantothenic acid, folate, niacin (vitamin B3), vitamin B6 and B12. Meat, fish and animal-derived foods, such as milk, are the only foods that naturally provide vitamin B12.

I will have to knock the dust off of my B-complex supplements and check the expry date and maybe start taking them again. I eat lots of chicken, pork and tuna but we lack in beef for the past two years because of the poor quality and the high price. I have venison....oh...I have venison, I have not cooked venison in a while. Thanks Mom for that breakdown

I always say to my kids in the grocery store that I am pretty sure they are feeding cows 24k hay. The price is crazy. :)
