trackin64's Journal, 09 May 2016

Mother's Day (ahem, "weekend") has not been kind to my body. I have not been a fan of cheat days, cheat meals and so forth because so often they lead to falling off entirely (at least in my case) but I am starting to think differently. Rigidity seems to be the root of my "either dieting or gaining" mentality. So now I'm looking at creating my own concept of "recess," a time to play without rules. I am starting to see the project as "weight loss and maintenance" instead of weight loss alone. Yes, all that should be obvious but I feel it involves a subtly different mindset. The biggest difference is to let go of weight loss expectations and goals of reaching a certain weight by a certain date. I almost always do not achieve such goals (even though reasonable), leading to disappointment and feelings of failure in spite of the progress made. And often I have then given up and regained! A generally downward trend is perhaps a better aspiration, when thinking long term and bigger picture. Ultimately it is all about understanding yourself - and there is nothing quite like the way dieting will put you in touch with your strengths and weaknesses!

I can't remember how long you've been on this "project" but I hope you don't lose your momentum. This week's look your direction gave me an impression that you were thinking and rethinking it all too much. I'm thinking you're sharp as a tack and the irrationality of our bodies creeps into your logical mind. Don't dragonfly this thing. Changing course is sometimes good but doing it too often is what can derail us. I think your progress is hopeful and not at all disappointing. Wishing you wild success!

Thanks fivetwo; yes, I agree that constantly switching things is a bad idea. I was making progress with my weight on alternate day, but my blood sugar worsened. That's why I went back to Atkins. Point is, I keep doing the same things and failing so trying to figure out what I can stick with long term.

Trackin' I believe eating a lower carb food plan is the way to go, especially when blood sugar is a factor. You are doing something right ... just look at your graph. I am always trying to learn new things ... nothing wrong with that ... just different takes on the same theme ... low carb. You might look at the "Always Hungry" book. You might also look into doing the 16:8 IF for a while, if you aren't already.

I agree with you totally. We have to do our best every day. Some days will be harder than others but if we are committed and we plug along we will reach our goal. Everyones weight loss journey will be unique to them. Not everything will work for everyone and little by little with small steps we will figure out what works best for us. Not just for immediate weight loss but for always. Hope you are having a great day and thanks for accepting my buddy request.

Thank you all - Been doing some emotional eating and gaining, but staying involved and making the attempt to get back on track. Breakfast has been OK, but afterwards all hell has been breaking loose. Today is attempt #10, but I think I have uncovered all the issues disturbing me so I can move forward once more. Weird thing is, I wasn't even enjoying the crap food I was overeating.

I know - it has taken me years to be able to have a treat meal one time, and then get right back to my "normal" plan immediately - I can do it now but it took practice!
