Panigale1199's Journal, 27 April 2016

So I now fast leangains style. I do a 10 hour eating window and 14 hour fast (what he recommended for women) and its going well. Been doing it for about a week now and feeling great. I love how much time I save in the morning from not having to cook before work!

Last night I did an hour weight training session at the gym. Its crazy how you cans listen to awesome music in your headphones and just non stop lift and workout. I didnt even realize i was working out for an hour until I checked my phone. My last few exercises my body was shaking. Haha but it all felt great in the end. I love weight training.

Today I have yoga as my rest day and I did 45min walk with the dogs :)

Happy hump day all. Don't skip leg day ^_^

PS - What's the deal with that potato thing you did? Did that work? A new girl was asking about it last night and I started reading some pretty interesting stuff..

The potato hack did work. I suggest you check out the book on Amazon. Just type in potato hack. The author is Tim Steele. He gives the whole background of the hack and research to back up why it works and all that. I did it for 3-4 days. Ending my 4th day with a regular dinner. I list a total of 3 lbs on the potato hack. Which is crazy because I was stuck at 150-151 for most of 2015 and it was so hard to get past that. I am down in the 140s now and I am back to a normal diet except now I am IFing, somehow the potato hack helped me get back into IF. Also I now add potato starch to my diet. It is helping me keep regular too. Id say it was a good experiment. Like the author says in the book. Its a hack not a long term diet. I would do it again if I find im stuck in a plateau because that's where it helped me. I felt it kind of reset my gut and helps my digestion. He also mentions a few version of the potato hack that has worked for others. But I suggest doing the original hack first to test it. But my fav version is doing the hack for breakfast/lunch and having a normal dinner.

Oh and his whole study on RS is pretty cool. I think the RS is helping my digestion because (sorry TMI) I would be so backed up for DAYS. I always felt bloated and heavy. Doing the potato hack helped reset me and now I am regular again (thank god). I had always had this problem even following the normal paleo diet. Paleo helped but didnt fix my regularity. Adding Potato starch for RS seems to really be working for me. Hope my answer helps! I geek out on this kind of health stuff. Love reading about it

Thanks, P. I may try it and I hear you on the backstoppage. Its an occupational hazard of high protein. Also, the science seems to make sense.

What did you do for fat with cooking/eating your potatos?
27 Apr 16 by member: jimmiepop
Technically on the original potato hack you are to eat them PLAIN only salt and pepper if you wish. I noticed for me the easiest way to doing this is either boliling potatos- mashing them with a fork and adding salt and pepper. Or I cut them into fries and bake them crispy with no fat. But After a little while the plainess of the potatos was making me mad LOL so I started to add 1tsp of ghee (clarified butter) to mine. I still lost weight. He suggests if you do the hack with fat- use a small amount for taste. If your results slow down then take out the fat. Also its really hard to over eat potatos plain. So it keeps your calories on the lower and and keeps you full. I say experiment with both options.. I personally still lost weight adding a little ghee to mine

am reading up on the Paleo diet to see if it is something i might want to try. can anyone give me their thoughts?

Panigale - what fast were you doing prior to the 10/14? I am doing 16/8. Just curious if you feel you are losing more with the longer eating window?
27 Apr 16 by member: SupPaddlegirl
@Navymom - It's a short step from low carb to do a low carb paleo. Basically you'll be eating real, natural foods and giving up dairy foods and any artificial sweeteners (if you use them). Regular paleo isn't terribly high in carbs depending on how much fruit you eat. It's one of the things I want to give a try when I am needing a little more variety on the journey.

@NavymomT visit Marks Daily Apple website. His website/articles and fourm really got me to start paleo and I havnt looked back since. I say start there and you will get all your info. His site is Marksdailyapple.com. Check that out for more info on paleo. As for paleo life. I love it. It is not high or low carb. You can make paleo to fit your needs. You can eat paleo for low carb if that fits you or eat more moderate carb paleo which I do and it works great for me. In general though, you will be eating whole foods and avoid processed foods as much as possible. Dairy is a grey area. If you do eat dairy try to eat grass fed/organic. I avoid dairy milk but I make my own nut milks. Once in a while I enjoy good cheese and greek yogurt on occasion.

@SupPaddlegirl I tried doing the 16/8 window before i gave up on fasting. For me I found the 10/14 works for me because if I go too long I get really hungry, minor headaches and bitter. I become cranky. But I found the 14 hour fast is a good sweet spot for me. SO far my energy is up, no headaches. and I am able to hold off in the mornings. I eat my first meal around 10:30-11 am and dinner is no later than 8:30pm. My window fluctuates 30 mins depending on my work day. But I keep the fasting time 14 hours. I just started this for a week now. I am going to give it a month and see how my progress does with fat loss.

Cool. I will look at his site. how do you make nut milk?you are like almond milk? stuff like that?
27 Apr 16 by member: NavymomT
Yes I soak the chosen nut ( almond, cashew, hazelnut etc) I soak 1 cup nuts in water over night. Then I rinse them and put them in a blender with 3 cups fresh water and blend it. I also add vanilla extract. Then I pour the mixture in my nutmilk bag (see amazon for this. Its amazing) then I squeeze all the nutmilk out and put it in a milk bottle I have. The nutmilk bag I have is resuable and better than using cheesecloth

I can't do that 16:8 IF window either for the same reasons you list. But 14/10 works just fine. I eat from 8 am to 6 pm.

@Pan, i will have to try that over the wkend. i love me some almonds or cashews. never had the milk made from them so i will have to try it.

Ahhh...you and me, girl. I do 16:8 and push the heaviest weights I can handle and do cardio only in sprints minimally now. I do still eat high fat and lower carb, with moderate proteins. I am so glad it is working for you, too.

@Panigale I was afraid you were going to say that. Need to find me some Fat Free Lard so I can do the Hash Browns version...

And thanks for all the info, BTW. Much appreciated.

Haha no problem! Sometimes even hacks cant be that easy. I dreaded the idea of NO fat. One thing I noticed though was when I tried it purely plain..I never really felt purely satiated. When I added a tiny bit of butter it made a whole difference. Let me know how it works for you and how you do it. Im curious what your results will be
