Heard of a new one called "The Potato Hack". This sounds like HEAVEN for me...as I LOOOOOOOVE potatoes. All ways. Baked. Boiled. Fried. Mashed. Hot. Cold.

But I have always heard that potatoes are bad. The starch is bad.

I wanna eat potatoes.

Can anyone shed some light on this hack? I tried to look it up and do some research. Everything I read told me all the benefits, but I couldn't find anything about the disadvantages.

Help!

Well if you are a high carb person, its not an issue. But if you are like many of us that are LCHF, Potatoes are like kryptonite to Superman. That starch in those bad boys is enough to cause an insulin spike that would send us into a fat gain freefall. Insulin triggers FAT cell growth. ANYTHING starchy will cause insulin to spike.

There's a user on here who did it - Panigale something rather.

I remember that. I don't remember the particulars though.

So, here's the gist of the potato diet: As a quick way to lose fat, eat nothing but potatoes for a week or two. As seen above, you can gain weight if you eat too many, so don't overeat. Try to eat 2-3 pounds per day as plainly as possible. No butter, sour cream, no milk, no eggs--just potatoes. Nearly everyone who tried this last year in the numerous threads and on many different website forums found they could effortlessly lose 1/2 to 1 pound per day and keep the weight off afterwards. It's not water-weight, it's fat!

I understand that Knuckles, but have you read any of the reasons as to why the potato hack works? I thought the same thing that you just stated, but here is what I found: 1. Fill your belly full of heavy low calorie nutritious potatoes and you’ll create a caloric deficit and do so without feeling hungry. 2. Eating the potatoes cooled increased the amount of resistance starch, which according the Potato Diet post can further help with gut health and hunger signals. 3. Potatoes reset your metabolism and reduce inflammation as well as reduce water weight. I have read up on the hack on a couple different websites. The one I really want to read on, is not a secure website, so I cannot view it at work. I have to wait until I get home tonight to read about it. Maybe I will have more info about this tmrw.

I've read up on it but haven't tried it. Even the LCHF "experts" that have tried it have lost weight on it. Most threads on people trying it basically said it's hard to eat much over 1500 cals of potatoes per day. Potatoes are high in fiber and very satiating.

Please post if you run it. Would be terrific to see the play by play on that.

Potatoes cause an arthritis/inflammation flare up for me so I probably am out for this...Look foreword to seeing how it works out for you and others though (kinda feel bummed...I love potatoes :( )

Looks pretty interesting, maybe when I hit the wall. If there's some low fat substitute for the lard essential to perfect hash browns, I would definitely be down for a couple weeks. Not excited about eating potatoes with no added fat...

Real butter? It is higher in fat...but no carbs. If you boil the potatoes first, then slice em and fry em in some real butter, you will get the crispness (my fave part), without having to overcook them, or need oil, because they are already soft. The 'fry' part is simply for the 'crispy outer shell'.

Sweet potatoes?

@Becca P, the same happens for me whenever I have more than 1 serving per MONTH. A full day of nothing besides those yummy spuds would leave me on the floor, writhing in pain. My. Joints. HATE. Potatoes! @Cyanasaurus_vix, I love potatoes, too, 'though I can't eat 'em so much. Best of luck to you on this hack. And by all means, post pictures.

HCB---I have seen that member post before, when I just searched for the username in the member directory...it didn't find anything. Maybe the spelling is off? I really want to read the results of the hack...
