annie oak's Journal, 01 March 2016

I have put on weight and have been feeling like a fat blimp, I have let myself go to the point that I thought there was no return.
I did go to see a dietitian who was very rude to me, yes I was part of the problem because I had asked her to be hard on me and kick my butt if I do the wrong things.
some of what she suggested to me was good but I still don't think anyone has the right to be rude to someone who for being overweight when that person has never had a weight problem themselves.

I started going back to overeaters anon meeting last week and have decided that I won't be going back to the dietitian but will continue with the OA meeting and journal my food and exercise here with you guys.
it has been a really strange year so far, I hope it will get better....I have a goal of wanting to see my feet when I look down and not my belly or boobs, so here we go....I have decided I want to return and take charge of what I can with my body, it's going to be hard, I have made the 1st step and bought a chair to sit on while using my hand and foot peddles, also am looking into doing the 80's teenager thing again and doing some dancing in my room with music playing through my head phones

Hi Annie I agree with you, judging people is not helpful. Change is difficult and a health practioner is supposed to provide support, education and encouragement. I strongly believe that everyone should be treated with respect and human dignity is a fundamental right.

Hi Annie, I too once went to a dietician, she was pretty good but what she told me was what I really knew anyway - eat less/eat better, exercise more. It is possible to set ourselves up for failure - going to hard too quick - it's not sustainable. I notice you drink softdrink - well, I used to drink huge quantities of coke zero so one day I had a good look at what it was that I really liked given it is caffeine and sugar free ( must be all the chemicals they put in it) and what I loved was the cold fizziness - so I bought a soda stream and made up carbonated water. It did take a bit to get used to the taste of it but now I love it - at the end of the day it's cold fizzy water and after drinking up to 5 cans of coke a day - I no longer drink "softdrinks" any more. In fact, on the rare occasion I have had a coke zero I cant believe I used to drink it. So, not sure if this is of any use to you but just thought I'd share it with you. Send me a buddy request :-)

thank you both xoxox, I have not been able to get onto this site for a while and really appreciate your advice....she was right with what she said that I need to change what I'm doing, yes wendyerikensen1, I do like to have a change from water every now and then, but I seem to have made it more a now thing than then, I had a soda stream but gave it away, it wasn't fizzy enough and I can get soda water for 80 cents a bottle. I remember a long time ago, I was having a real water fetish and would drink nothing else until the night I decided to buy a soft drink for a change......after 30 mins I decided that the sweetness of water, the quenching relief and the coolness, there was nothing that compared to it, other than soda water, yes I had discovered a new taste sensation.....soda and mineral waters

Hi Annie. So if your doing your 80's teenager thing then we must be similar age - so rock on! I have been writing in my food diary a lot better than I have - I think it is keeping my accountable to myself which seems to be working for me. I started to go to the gym and I met a trainer there who is almost blind. He was telling me how he was always over weight and how at 9 he started to go blind and was legally blind by 11 years old so he was this fat blind kid for many years. He said that eventually he learned to accept his blindness, that it couldn't be changed but the one thing he could change was himself so that's what he did. He went on to become a qualified personal trainer and competes in body building. For some reason this story has made more of a difference to me than all the "help" and "encouragement" from those around me. I think how lucky I am that I have my sight and really, I don't have any excuse not to change something that I can. Funny how someone else's struggle can have such an impact. Hope you have a wonderful week drinking lots of soda water!!
