So I seem to be in some kind of transitional phase right now. I'm eating more, but not crazy more. And I am taking chances on foods that a few months ago would have really made me ill. I ate paczkis yesterday. Paczkis are a Polish filled donut that is a traditional treat for Mardi Gras -- a splurge the day before Lent starts. I expected to be sick as a dog today, but I'm actually ok -- a little gas -- but ok. This is a good thing and a bad thing. On the one hand, it's good that I may be reclaiming the ability to eat wheat. On the other hand, it also means that I don't have the fear factor working so much in my favor now -- if you're terrified of getting sick, you're likely to be pretty conservative about what you eat, which really worked to my advantage the past year. However, I'm finding that my improved eating habits are really pretty engrained now. Although I had paczkis for breakfast yesterday, I limited myself to a bowl of tomato-based fish soup for lunch, and when I went out to dinner last night, I stuck with salad, fish, and spinach, so I couldn't have been in too much trouble across the day. Also, the paczki splurge didn't prompt a slide into diet oblivion. Today, I did well -- I'm still eating more than I was before, but I've not fallen off the wagon. I just seem to have come to a temporary resting spot in this diet/eating plan. I think it might be that the FODMAP regime put so many restrictions on what I could eat that I just couldn't take it anymore, and I needed some kind of break. But I have gotten so used to eating this way that eating any other way no longer appeals to me -- I just want to be able to eat paczkis once a year on Mardi Gras. I don't think that's actually that unreasonable. Is there really anyone who never ever ever eats anything that falls into the useless sugar and fat category?

LOL - I do not think there is anyone who NEVER eats anything off menu! Glad you were able to tolerate the paczkis!

You do have to live in the real world, where there will be something on the unhealthy side that you love and will need to be able to eat in moderation, lest you throw all caution out the window and binge. After being so disciplined, you totally deserve to indulge!

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the reinforcement that I'm not turning into a diet weakling.
