I hope everyone is doing well today.

I think I've found the issue of why my hunger has increase so much recently. About a month and a half I ago I went caffeine free. After reading up on caffeine one of its purported effects is reduced appetite. I have added caffeine back into my regimen and it has really helped with hunger. I still feel hunger pangs when I'm truly hungry but they are not overwhelming any more. Also I have not been inclined to overeat when I do eat. It's odd because when I consume caffeinated beverages I really don't notice it and can even fall asleep easily. When I take caffeine in the form of pills I really notice the effect. I'm not saying this would work for everyone and would also caution people that caffeine is a stimulant.

This morning I got in my cardio. I did 30 minutes on the ladder and 30 minutes on the stairmaster. I really got my heart rate up and was sweating all over the equipment. It was a great workout and I felt wonderful after the workout.

Tomorrow I have PT for my hamstring so no workout. I'll be back at it Thursday morning.

Have a great day everybody.

Interesting, I hadn't heard about caffeine helping by reducing appetite but then again, nothing surprises me anymore. Great job on working out! I love that feeling when I'm done. I hope therapy goes well. You have a beautiful day too! :)

Every health study I've read says caffeine stimulates the appetite. However, filling up on fluids will trick the stomach into feeling full, so if you're drinking more (water, also, I hope), that would explain the reduced cravings.

It's so interesting what we read. What I've read says caffeine cuts the appetite that's why if you look at over the counter diet pills their loaded with caffeine in one form or another. We all do what we think works for us.

i also cut back on caffeine.. one cup of joe in the morning and thats what i aim for. I sometimes break down and have a red bull if im dragging. I say it reduces my appetite for sure. I cant do the pills bc they make me edgy and nauseated.. Good luck at PT and hope that hamstring doesnt give you to much trouble.

I have just learned that 1 tsp. of ground ginger made into a tea and drink it with your 1st meal of the day will curb your cravings the rest of the day !!

Caffeine can cause jitteryness, nervousness and anxiety. If you are prone to eating when nervous this can indeed cause an increase in appetite. On the flip site it is a stimulant and the increases energy effect can mask hunger. Everybody is different which is why so many studies conflict with one another. krazykat99 - I'll try that and see if it helps. My main problem was a constant hunger and snacking. I wasn't really craving anything specific but tended toward salted nuts which are very calorie dense. I think I now have a handle on it but any little bit helps. Thanks for the advice.
