My 77 year old mother had a scare Sunday with chest pain. She had an 80% blocked coronary artery a few years ago and had a stent placed. She had two smaller blockages at that time of 40% and 50%. So when she started having increased chest pain & shortness of breath with activity she finally went to the ER. Her cardiologist thought for sure it was unstable angina again but it wasn't. Her heart cath showed that her stent was still open and her 40% had not increased at all. The 50% blockage had actually improved greatly and now was just "mild". I guess her cholesterol medication worked! She had a really high cholesterol several years ago of 350-400 but it is under control now.

I like my mother have a high cholesterol. If untreated around 300, but treated with Crestor it's close to normal.

The doctor's are treating her pain as reflux. My dad died at age 42 thinking he was having indigestion but it was a heart attack. He died at home treating himself with the recipe on the back of the soda box. It can be very hard to tell the difference.

That is great news that your mother didn't have a further heart problem. She did the right thing going to the emergency room. As you said, sometimes it is difficult to know what's going on but better safe than sorry every time. My 78 year old mother has had high cholesterol for years. She was taking statins but quit as they upset her stomach. I feel very fortunate that I haven't inherited her high cholesterol. Have a good evening, Cheryl!
