mickfan1's Journal, 13 April 2015

So here it is six months after I first joined this site and I haven't lost a thing. Somewhere along the line I gave up. I once again feel like a failure. But I will prevail! I'm trying again to beat the fat demons and I sure hope I get the upper hand this time. The weather is now nice in the morning to where I can go for a walk without needing heavy clothes (I live in Phoenix, I'm such a wuss). Wish me luck everyone.

Have you figured out where you go off track? I go off track by not keeping record of what I eat. Some days about half way through the day I will stop accounting for what I eat and this allows me to kid myself about what I am eating. If I track everything I eat as I go through my day I lose weight. Also, I try to do some sort of exercise everyday. That includes heavier yard work and heavier housecleaning. Also, now if I fall off the horse, I always get back on. I don't like to think of it as a failure, but just a bump on the road I will definitely be staying on. The other thing that helps me is I think of eating less and exercising more as a way of staying healthier and happier, instead of the only thing keeping me from being the next super model. LOL. And it is true, as I have lost weight and exercised more, I feel happier and healthier. It's really nice. I don't judge myself too harshly anymore. That is really nice, too.

Thanks for the support. Yes rachelcooper, I do stop half way through the day because I think I know about the calories I'm going to eat. But I always find a way to eat more but don't put it down. I need to stop fooling myself and admit that I don't know it all and I need to see what I eat written down. FYI, you may be the next super model, never say never :)

Tracking food helps me make better decisions about what I eat. A lot of times when I am thinking about snacking on something that is not particularly nutritious and/or high in calories, I have to ask myself are these two cookies worth 250 calories of my 1600 calorie daily intake ? Am I really truly hungry? Many times I say "no" to both questions and move on. Basically, tracking my food intake keeps me honest with myself and makes me aware as to whether I am eating too much in the way of carbohydrates. When I can't just walk away I drink decaf coffee or water or eat something like a light mozzarella cheese stick. Then I move on. If worse comes to worse I leave the house to get my mind off food. Distractions can work wonders!!Good Luck!
