ShyGuy's Journal, 06 April 2015

It's the Monday after Easter, and I hope everyone had a great one; I sure did. I started off my day in church; got a great message from our pastor, and ended the the day with family and friends, sharing an awesome meal, and time of fellowship; followed by watching "A.D. The Bible Continues", which I thought was great, but my brother cringed at the fact that this episode ended before Jesus' resurrection, on Resurrection Day, not realizing that this is a mini-series, that will continue next week.

Today is also the first day of the baseball season, and though I've been watching some of the pre-game festivities for the Detroit Tigers opening day game against the Minnesota Twins, which is an un-official holiday in Detroit, I'm not going to the game, and probably will not watch it either. I'm not the biggest baseball fan, and always enjoy a game more when I'm actually there. Over the years, I've been to Tiger Stadium, Dodger Stadium, Petco Park, to watch the San Diego Padres, and years ago went to watch a home game for the Montreal Expos. I've stayed at Stadium Motor Lodge, just outside of Yankee Stadium, but I guess that doesn't count as going to Yankee Stadium. A friend of mine has been to every major league stadium in the country; I think it took him a couple of years to accomplish that feat. As said, a game is always more fun when you are there, with a beer in one hand, and a Dodger Dog, gotta get the foot-long, in the other hand; in the case of Detroit, it's the Ballpark Franks, with mustard. Have a great day everyone. ;-)

Sounds like you had a great weekend. Having lived in the Chicago area for several years, I was a die-hard Sox fan. Ironically, my step-dad was the warm up pitcher for the White Sox when in high school. Out of high school he signed with the Sox and even went to training camp. Then WWII broke out and that was the end of baseball. When he returned from service he again signed with them and unfortunately threw out his arm during spring training....end of baseball career. Now, the ironic thing is that he was a die-hard Cubbies fan his entire life. He and my mom visited every National League park in their years together and had many wonderful baseball stories. Opening Day in Chicago is a very big day. When I was a principal the entire school would dress in team colors or jerseys. And yes, there is NOTHING better than a David Berg Dog with mustard and a cup of beer; except maybe a bag of "get your fresh roasted peanuts here."

Oh yeah, the Tigers got it done, today, beating the Twins 4 - 0; a great way to start the season. I forgot about those fresh roasted peanuts, those are great too. I like Chicago, though I haven't been there in 25+ years; never went to a ball game there, but loved the deep dish pizza. :-)

I ADORE baseball and because I am from Boston, of course I am a Yankee hater and love my Red Sox. I get the Extra Innings package on cable so I can watch every Red Sox game live even though I live in Twins territory now. Hate them...
