Kiwinana's Journal, 03 February 2015

I am trying to cut back on my carbs, but everything seems to have a lot of carbs in it. Are there any good carbs? I thought all the bad carbs were in anything that's white & starchy.

Brown rice, Sweet Potatoes, Oatmeal, Wheat Bread, Apples..... You want to look for "low glycemic foods." These are the ones that won't spike your blood sugar and will keep you fuller longer. Here's an example website: http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/weight-loss/plans/diets/the-slow-carb-diet/

Weird - it didn't take the whole link. The article was "the slow carb diet" and it was on fitnessmagazine.com. But I just typed "low glycemic foods" into google.

Veggies have carbs and they are good for you. I used to eat a lot of coleslaw before my dental issues and I am going back once it is all over. I love cooked veggies but raw veggies are my favourite.

Like JennBuck61 mentioned vegetables are good source of "good" carbs. If you like sweet potatoes, this is a great option. If you also like cabbage, you may like to try something with this. Oh yeah, cauliflower. You can make a mashed cauliflower too.

You can find places on the Internet that list the amount of carbs in foods. It is helpful to know that you can subtract the amount of fiber from the carbs to get your net carbs. It would be helpful to get some ideas about how carbs work in your body. Also eating some protein with your carbs is beneficial.

I eat a lot of meat. It helps to keep carbs low, and I it makes me feel a lot fuller, so I don't over eat on veggies.
