LMJ114's Journal, 25 August 2014

Our oldest hosted a birthday party for my mom yesterday. It was a nice time, with great food and drink, and lots of family around. As I ate poorly yesterday, will have to eat very clean today and tomorrow to make sure none of those calories glue themselves to my thighs.

Went for a run this morning. I need to quit relying on just running, though, and get back to some weight lifting, too. (Warning: whine alert!) I just hate working out alone all the time. It's bad enough when running - but at least once you get out and moving, you have to get back home! In weight training, it's just too easy to put the weights down and leave the room, no matter if you've done 1 or 100 lifts.

Ok. Enough whining. Moving on. Have a great day.

Having support while working out really helps push me too. Right now, I'm doing it all on my own - training for a half-marathon and working on building a self-driven daily Ashtanga yoga practice that doesn't involve a DVD or class. I do my yoga outside in the garden (weather permitting), with only my thoughts to keep me company. One technique I use to ensure I'm not skipping workouts is to give myself S.M.A.R.T. goals. (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound) Example: "This week, I will complete 25 miles, rain or shine, and give my best effort during least two 90-minute yoga workouts on my non-running days." I write down the goals and hold myself to them. Maybe that would work for you? I know it's really difficult to keep yourself motivated when there's no one else making you accountable. I'm in the same boat! Hope my two-cents helps! :)

Happy Birthday to the Mom! You did such a wonderful thing for her last year when you encouraged her to loose weight. Wait a minute...you did a wonderful thing for your daughter by spending a week with her....wait another minute...you did a wonderful thing for me to challenge me to loose weight and recognize my absolute weakness of not exercising (that is besides sugar...which I am afraid you might just find out about and I will have to come up with a plan to get rid of sugar too). Let's just breathe a minute here and notice how much you have lost so far and resume slowly. Also I would be happy to play "weight lifting" with you if you want because you are very fun!
