Happy Monday, Everyone! I know so many people dread Mondays, but I don't. To me, Mondays hold so much hope, promise and anticipation of another opportunity to be "the best version of me" I can be! Yesterday, I ran 10K (6.2 miles, in 1:12:01) I was not in a race/competition, but just on my own, in the park, because I could. Although it wasn't a terribly impressive time, I realized I've caught "the running bug". As far as bugs go, it's not a bad one to have! I came home and took a look around the Internet, and found a half-marathon in Allentown, PA (about 2 hours from my home) on the day after I turn the big 4-oh! I think I'm going to make that my next physical goal. What a great way to celebrate turning 40!! Screw the birthday cake, I'll take a new set of running shoes and a medal around my neck, thank you very much!! Now that's what I call celebrating life! Here's your New Monday, New Opportunity For Greatness, New Attitude Anthem for the day: Bleachers - I Want To Get Better I can't seem to get this song out of my head! It also makes for a great 4-minute morning dance party!! To quote the late, great Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society: 'Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys (and girls). Make your lives extraordinary'

i love reading your positive attitude! great job on the run! and getting the bug. i never thought it would happen, but i've got the walking bug. i don't even want to go to the pool anymore. i thank my fit bit. it's so motivational. i used to go to school in reading pa. we would drive past allentown coming from nj on our way there. i think the half marathon is a great goal! my little goal was to walk to starbucks. now that i have done that, i'm not sure what to reach for. i don't really want to do a 5 or 10 K walk, because i am so slow, so i have to think of something else. happy tuesday!!

I'll share a secret of running/walking a 5K with you, Gnewfry. The hardest part of running/walking your first 5K is registering for the race and convincing yourself you can do it! After that, it's just a matter of putting one foot in front of the other! There are a bunch of "Couch to 5K" apps/websites and a ton of 5K training plans online to suit every fitness level. I say, select a training plan that you think you can accomplish, stick with it, and start looking for an event! I was SO scared the first time I entered a 5K! But, it was a LOT of fun and I felt a huge sense of accomplishment when I crossed that finish line! Did I win? Hell, no. But I finished with my head held high!

You rock! I so admire people that take up running. Indeed, I too try to think of Mondays as an opportunity to be the best possible me I can be. Carpe Diem!
