Hi everyone!!!! I miss you. How are you? Several things are running around in my brain right now...

Maintenance. I guess I am in maintenance phase. I was thinking about letting my body lose a few more pounds, but it doesn't seem to particularly want to, and people are telling me that if I lose any more weight I will look too skinny (some people already think I look too skinny, but phooey on them). For some reason, whether I am overweight or normal, everyone always thinks I am 20 lbs lighter than I am. I was going to lose more just to look great in a bikini, but I am just wanting to take the easy way out on that one, because what I really need to do is tone up, not lose more. A project for the future, though; too much else going on. For those of you in maintenance, what are some important lessons you have learned about the process?

I got my first wedding gift the other day. Its a fondue pot! Yummy. But does anyone know any HEALTHY ways to use a fondue pot?

I had a rough day last night emotionally. Those of you who've been my buddy a long time know that I used to vaguely follow the Diet Cure. I quit because it was waaaaay too many calories. She recommends eating "at least" 2200 calories per day. That is just ridiculous for me, and largely responsible for me gaining even more when I was trying to lose. However, her advice for a low-carb diet really seems to work for me. She has another book, which is pretty much the same book but with different emphasis, called the Mood Cure. In both books she mentions the emotional and weight loss problems that come with lack of protein. Although I seem to be able to lose weight (less easily) on a high-carb, low-protein diet, it really seems to mess with my moods. I was way out of whack yesterday after eating a ton of (complex) carbs. I also had digestive difficulties, and most curiously, when I weighed myself last night (and this morning too), my bodyfat percentage was all the way down from a 29%-30% range to a 18-19% range. Now obviously, one's actual body fat percentage cannot change that much in one day, but the scale measures it based on your total body water, so bloating can affect it. I wonder if I was that bloated from too many carbs and beer. I was so surprised by this change that I weighed myself several times to make sure. Chuck was taking a shower at the time and was worried about me! Its amazing to think that the composition of one's diet could affect the scale's analysis of one's bodyfat so much. Either that or conckroaches broke my scale. Yes, be prepared to be disgusted, but the other day I weighed myself and saw two cockroaches inside the scale crawling across the numbers. I hadn't weighed myself in a while so I guess they thought they had found their nest. Now there is an argument for weighing every day if I ever saw one! They seem to have left, but I'm keeping my eye out for them. And yes, we keep the house clean and use pest control. Anyone who's ever lived in an apartment in Florida knows that bugs are hard to keep at bay no matter what. But I digress... I'm going low-carb today to see if the scale changes (or if its just the roaches, haha). I might skim through the diet cure again. One thing I like about it is that you do not have to count carbs, you manage your diet by measuring servings. You do have to count protein, but that's a lot easier and its a number you are trying to achieve rather than stay under.

Have a fabulous day, everyone!

Wow, wow, wow!! Congratz on getting down so low!! Interesting on the new diet info... you'll have to keep us posted. I'm sooo happy for you getting down so low!! :) GREAT JOB! Yes, I wouldn't worry more about "losing", than I would the toning and you'll prolly lose that way, too. How exciting about the first gift! When is the big day?

Missed you, too, buddy! GOod to see you! Great job with maintaining - it sounds like you have a good plan for focusing on toning. Hmm, I wouldn't know what to do with a fondue pot! Maybe simmer some potpourri? LOL about the cucarachas messing with your scale! That must be why you were seeing 'buggy' results! :)

thanks for the tips and encouragement, buddies!! Bully, the big day is June 6th, are you coming? ;D Lol, yes, amryk, I can't believe it about the cucarachas! But I realized they didn't break it-- *I* broke it when I got mad that they were in there and started banging the scale on the ground!

Congrats on the wedding. What I learned about the maintenance stage is that it's how I plan to live from here on out. So my maintenance stage is my actual lifestyle. In my opinion, the maintenance stage shouldn't be set just for one specific weight but should include a small range of weight because it would be quite hard to remain at "one weight" all the time. My range of weight is between -4 to +7 pounds. Since there will be times when I may gain a few pounds, I don't get frustrated and feel like I'm failing. The bottom line is that overall, I still maintain my lifestyle of healthy eating & some form of daily exercise with proper rest and some type of stress relief activities regardless of gaining or losing weight. But that's just me though. You're doing awesome buddy!

Thanks for the tips, Pking! I especially like your forgiving weight range-- that makes maintenance sound easier! I appreciate all your support! :)

Congrats - you have done a fantastic job! Fondue pot - try "frying" the foods in boiling vegetable stock -- we did this for the holidays and it worked great!
