ChrisSpark's Journal, 10 July 2014

After two quiet days taking it easy and letting the fibro settle back down, I was able to get back out there today, went for my 30 minute swim workout (with weights) then paddled around for another hour. Getting to the pool and back added another 25 minutes of cycling.
Haven't been perfect with the eating, but managed to have just a burger and skipped the fries and coke tonight, which for me is huge! Had a small ice cream, but I could skip that more easily.
Have to face the trip to the grocery store tomorrow since I am out of everything and that means I will be tempted to resort to fast food.
Hope everyone is doing well.

Nice that you are feeling much better Chris, and able to get some exercise in. When I go to the fast food places, (which is very rare) I ask them for a protein style burger because I don't want the bread...and no fries... I also find that shopping is getting easier, in the beginning I was lost..good luck with your shopping and forget about the burger and ice cream, we have all been there... one time or another...

Thanks re-energize...I was thinking next time I might ask for double patties and skip the bun...it's $1.00 burgers at the local diner on Tuesdays and Thursdays...What can I say, the price is right :-)

I like to go to the supermarket. It's your chance to pick healthy foods so at home you are not tempted. A burger with no bun is not a bad choice, I eat it sometimes.

Thanks snezica...It's 2.5 kms to the grocery store, so I get to combine exercise with the healthy shopping. I built my list from the 30 Day Simple Green Smoothie Challenge, so there was lots of fruits and vegetables. I am making progress on learning to cook healthy for one, on a limited budget. Between an early morning dog walk, grocery shopping, a bike ride to the pool, a 90 minute swim, and a late night dog walk, I logged over 14000 steps and I'm hurting today. So it will be a day of rest. Keeping busy trying out a meal-planning website called Plan To Eat. I find it very difficult to plan my meals ahead, and since I can only manage shopping once, I have to get everything I might need in the week ahead. I am hoping that this site might help me get better at it. On the downside, FS tells me I've logged a calorie deficit of over 20,000 calories in 3 weeks and the scale tells me I haven't lost more than a pound. So I must be doing something wrong. Besides not getting enough protein and too many carbs, what else might be wrong? Sigh.

fs also tells me i've logged at a deficity for a lot, but still i've only lost a little. maybe they have our basic metabolic rates wrong.

Gnewfry and Chris - I think the FS RDI IS really high. It's a complaint I've been multiple times here. I've calculated mine in various other places and came up with about the same base metabolic rate at 5 or 6 different websites. I deduct 500 cal/day for an average loss of about 1 lb a week. The number that FS gives me is about 400 cal per day more than any other calc methods. I'm not really sure if their exercise calories burned are high as well. But the RDI calc complaint is a common one I've seen.

Shoot - complaint I've SEEN (not been).

Vickie is right. I was on my fat secret calculated RDI only a week when I got this account and then switched to a more reasonable one that was 400 calories less then what fat secret calculated me. I also eat little protein like you and a lot of carbs and sugar from fruits but I'm still losing and I'm not killing myself with exercise.

Small changes in letting go of the unhealthy food, is showing that you are more aware of what you are putting in your system. Great job!!!

i know the rdi is high, for sure. it had me at 2600 calories, and now i'm down to 2000, which is probably still high. i think the calories burned is high too, the basal metabolic rate. otherwise, i should be losing a lot more.

Yes Gnewfry...I think I better set my goal at about 80% RDI if I want to lose a pound and a half a week. I would even be happy with a pound if I can maintain the changes...Still have work to do on increasing my protein and reducing my carbs, for sure. I am enjoying the process of improving my meal planning and cooking skills. Thanks everyone

You should probably be eating somewhere around 1700 calories a day. See how that does you. If you are not losing at that intake, move it down to 1650 a day.

if you want to see what to put your rdi at, and how much weight lost that will translate into, go to calculator.net

Thanks Gnewfry...I adjusted my RDI on FS. We'll see how that goes.
