SlimChick's Journal, 05 March 2011

Well, I've been doing the whole "Intuitive Diet" thing. This works very, very well....for maintaining weight. I have not gained any weight at all in the past month or so.

I also have not lost.

I found an interesting supplement that is mostly Yerba Mate at Dollar General called "Resveratrol Rapid Calorie Burn" (I'm usually kind of scared of diet supplements, but the ingredients list was pretty innocuous...). It really does cut appetite. And it doesn't cause jitters like those kola nut and ephedra things I experimented with when I was a chubby teenager (before I lost everything somewhat randomly after giving up on dieting altogether).

What's frustrating, is, I know I only eat about 1000 to 1400 calories a day (I am pretty OCD about counting, even when I'm not writing it down, and when I write it down I find I tend to overestimate rather than underestimate calories). But I haven't been losing. And I also know, looking in the mirror, that I am not at the right weight. I'm 5'5" and medium large framed, sure, but a large frame does not account for a thirty-some inch waist and the fat folds on my back and gut. It's frustrating how happy my body is to just sit where I am, wherever that is, every time I lose a few pounds.

Maybe I should work out more. I'm beginning to think that my metabolism was designed for pulling dog sleds or something.

Have you calculated your BMR? You may not be eating enough thus causing your body to retain fat as a survival instinct. Also, how active are you?

I'm a little bit active. My basal metabolic rate is SUPPOSEDLY 1500 calories, but when I started my whole diet I was eating a fairly balanced 1600 calorie diet... I should probably have my thyroid checked. On my mom's side, my grandma had a slow thyroid and always had trouble with her weight even though she was a lifetime Weight Watchers member...

Thanks for the tip though. If I can't get it figured out by the end of the summer I'll prolly go talk to a doc or nutritionist :)

And I could definitely be more active. I walk about half a mile or so three days a week, but that's pretty much it. Most of my job and hobbies involve sitting, sketching, and computer screens XD
