Kathy Vanish's Journal, 16 May 2014

I have been training now for 2 weeks for my 5K next Friday. I am loving the running. I still walk uphill but run downhills and straight sections. I ran 1.5 miles straight today. That is my longest sustained run so far and if felt great. On my 4 mile run, I run a total of 3 miles broken up by walking up hills. I also have two short sections between hills that I use as sprints and run as fast as I can. My puppy loves those sections. He is also much better behaved now that he goes for a run/walk 6 days a week (weather dependent). I am already noticing an increase in my ability to go longer and harder during my other activities like zumba. I still do zumba 2-3 days a week. One of them is a live zumba class ususally Thursdays but will be moving to Tuesdays and my daughter likes to go with me to that one. And I have been trying to repair my relationship with my twin sister and we have started going Wednesday nights at least twice a month to our local Y zumba class. I am trying to convince my husband that I should get to do both since I take my daughter to Tuesday, so Wednesday should be my day. We'll see how that goes.

I am still not losing weight, but feel great! I try to eat healthy and am watching my calories, so I am at a loss to know what to do. Until I get an epiphany I am just going to keep doing what I am doing as I feel great and can do everything I want to do.

I admire your ability to run. That effort is fantastic. I was able to run short intervals last winter but the shin splints are killers. How cool is THAT - that you have a twin! I wish I was closer to MY sisters. have a fine Fat Secret Day!

I am just curious about your height. I started at 180 pounds and I am 5'1". So sorry if I come across as if I am comparing. Simply sizing up some ideas about running as opposed to - or in addition to - cycling, skipping rope, Jilian moves, walking, and pilates.

I am 5'2" tall. Hey I got you beat by an 1". Finally, now I am taller than someone. Lol! and Twins are only cool when they are talking to you. Right now she is not and I have no idea why. Maybe I will find out in a few months when she wants to be friends again.

Are you logging all of your food on here? I peeked (sorry for the intrusion)at your food diary and if that's all you're consuming you're a bit low....you need 1200 just to live a sedentary lifestyle..just a suggestion :)

Yes, I am tracking all of the food on here, but am still getting used to low fat and struggle with getting enough. Also, I travel quite a bit for work and just don't feel like eating in the car. Before, I would just make a huge meal of comfort food when I got home, but now am thinking about what I am consuming and make a huge salad and then come up short because I didn't have breakfast or lunch. Thursday I took lunch with me and so I wasn't as short, but still didn't have breakfast. All I can say is I am working on it.

You'll figure it out! Just keep this in mind: you need 1200 calories a day simply for your body to be able to perform it's normal processes, go below that and your body stores what you do take in...the best correlation I can come up with is like a starving dog, it scarfs down its food, taking advantage of whats in front of them, and then gets sick from eating too fast...your body is the same way, its going to grab onto those calories because it's scared it's not going to have enough, so you don't really lose by eating low...I don't know if that makes sense or not....
