Good Morning, FS Warriors! Up at 3:30 to run. Rain, rain, rain. I wimped out and mounted the treadmill. Jogged for a mile at 65% of Max HR, then ran 1 mile at 80% of MHR, and jogged another mile at 65% of MHR. Sweat like it was raining inside as well. My replacement GPS watch arrived yesterday evening and I was really looking forward to putting it through its paces this morning. I couldn't take advantage of the GPS satellite (on a treadmill), but the HR monitor and shoe sensor worked. It was high about a little over 1/10 of each mile, so it said I ran 3.4 miles and the treadmill said 3.0 miles. Not a big deal. We'll see how the shoe sensor/GPS combination works when I get outside. At least, I'm not experiencing any failures like with the first watch. Still going to wait until I'm sure the GPS works before I pack the old watch up and send it back.
Got done mowing the church lawn last night just before the rain hit. My yard looks like a dandelion farm; it may be a couple days before it's dry enough to mow, and then I might need a baler. DW fixed fried Morel mushrooms, fried cabbage and potatoes last night. Mushroom hunting is a big deal here in Illinois, and DD's fiance found quite a batch, and was kind enough to share them with us. Of course, that morning, I had decided to get serious about my diet and lay off the fried foods and sodium. LOL!
Speaking of which, I had my telephone visit with my company's health coach/nurse yesterday. She asked me what my biggest health concerns were at this time. I told her it was my weight and this pre-hypertension blood pressure thing. She said the best thing I could do to avoid going on BP medicine was to continue to lose weight and reduce the sodium. I never really thought much about the reason people cut back on sodium, so I asked her, "What is the correlation between sodium and blood pressure?" She said, "Basically, salt causes you to retain fluid, and retained fluid makes your blood pressure go up." Good enough for me. I'll have to work on that.
BTW, I went on a Google search of the best salt substitute, because I've never found anything that really worked for me. So, I found this YouTube video where the gal says dehydrated and ground up celery takes on a salty flavor and is the absolute best salt substitute. Experiment in progress. I bought a bunch of celery on the way home. I chopped each stalk into approximately 1/2 inch pieces, and put it all in the dehydrator at 115 degrees. She says it will take approximately 12 to 15 hours. Basically, you want to dry it until it turns into crunchy little nuggets. It's got to be really dry. Then I'm going to grind it up fine in this little coffee bean grinder that I have. She says you can use a food processor. In any case, by tomorrow's journal entry, I will be able to tell you whether this cynic is a believer or not.
Well, Galloping Gourmet signing off. Hope everyone has a great day. Toodles!
