Ms Elizabeth's Journal, 26 February 2014

My butt is chapped. This ongoing winter with snow and cold and ick can go away now. It has literally chapped my butt. I guess that's what I get for not investing in long johns and still attempting to wear slacks to work every day. Don't ask why I told you this.. I just felt like sharing. :)

Yesterday was great. I had to skip the gym to pickup some things at the store but I still managed 30 minutes on the elliptical at home after the kids went to bed. I did go a little over my 1800 calorie goal. I went over by 200 calories. Technically I burned more than that working out though so I still came in under 1800 calories which is what I burn during the day so it's an even sort of day. It's not my fault little man wanted a pop tart after dinner then he proceded to feed me most of it while we curled up watching Gilligans Island episodes. First one was in black and white and my oldest walked in horrified the tv was broken. Then a commercial came on and ruined the drama of a colorless tv.

Today I get to go with hubby to a nutritionist. At least now I can know what he should or shouldn't be doing. Maybe I can get some tips that will help all of us eat better. Apparently hubby isn't keeping anything a secret. He told the cow's genetics specialist about having diabetes yesterday. She almost died from it. She didn't know she had it until she ended up in critical care in the hospital. She told him she was sending me recipes and made him happy by telling him about sugar free york patties. His favorite candy. The idea of having to control his eating is stressing him out a little but it turns out he has so many people in his life in the same boat that he will have a good support network. I am kind of curious though.. his doctor did a sugar test then a blood test but they never did the fasting test. I'm beginning to wonder if thats enough to diagnose him or just enough to determine he might be prediabetic. Maybe today I can find out exactly whats going on.

Sounds like maybe he is where my dad was. Diagnosed diabetic but at a point where it can be controled with diet. My dad ate better and dropped some weight (not nearly what he should but a decent amount) and it no longer diagnosed as diabetic. BUT he knows that if he messes up he will be right back and chances are even worse. So my mom keeps him in check as much as possible. Good luck!

Go to Target and get Dead Sea Essentials Almond Bath Oil - 11 oz : Target $11.99. It has saved my butt from the Chiberia winter this year. After shower just rub it everywhere and let it soak in while you do your other cuteness things before getting dressed. Also go to Rob.c.weiss journal today or yesterday and he has a list of vegetables and nuts in order of the better low carb to not so good. Let us know how it goes with the nutritionist.

Good for you for getting on the elliptical last night, better than nothing. Good luck with the nutritionist today! I hope you get some good info.

I wonder if a fasting isn't needed too now that you mention it .. Cutty used to always have a cheeseburger and chocoshake before his doc visits and I'd argue the same (fasting) but they put him on meds anyway and I wonder... if the meds helped or hurt. If it is valid after a fasting it is good that he's found plenty of people sharing the same to trade tips and ideas - it's hard to feel like you're floating on an island wondering which nut to choose. Hope the chapping gets better - that picture almost made mine do the same!

You must feel relieved that he is addressing his issues. You never know, it might result in better eating for the whole family!

hgba1c blood test is a diagnostic blood test that looks at markers in your blood cells giving an overall reading of blood sugar covering a period of several months. it is the primary tool for diagnosing whether or not a person is diabetic. further testing can be used to help determine what type of diabetes and how effective a treatment plan is. currently, i am using lantus to treat my diabetes, primarily because my combination of liver disease and a months worth of sepsis jacked me up something awful. i'm working on tapering it off, though, with the aid of my endocrinologist. good luck to your husband and let me know if i can help in any way.

You know what really chaps my ass? - Isn't that a saying? If not, we should make it one lol. You are doing an epic job of keeping active. My husband and I have teetered back and forth on the idea of a third child, and I have always thought about how I would stay active and maintain a healthy lifestyle through pregnancy. Now I get to watch you do it, thanks for the lessons lol. I'm glad your husband is reaching out about his diagnosis. Pre-diabetes can absolutely be reversed with a modified diet and maybe a little more activity. Make sure you bring up to the doctor your concerns about the diagnosis before they start any medications. We like to assume doctors always get it right, unfortunately they don't. We are our own advocates. Keep up the great work :-)
