BuffyBear's Journal, 22 February 2014

Beautiful day today - bright sun and 63 degrees. DH and I just got through planting an apple tree, even though the deer get most of our fruit. They've got to eat too!

Now for something I forgot last Saturday - a reminder: If anyone would like to share their weigh in for the "unofficial" Easter Challenge, I'd love to hear from you bright and early tomorrow morning.

Counting from tomorrow we only have 8 more weeks. No more time to lose - we can do this if we hustle!

It is gorgeous! I wish it was warm enough here to get in some planting. We don't have the first shipments yet of fruit trees. Supposed to be the first of March, so not much longer. I am starting over again, so no progress in my corner. How are you doin'?

Enjoy the nice weather. Would love to start cleaning up my yard. Not worth it until march. An early round of the tiller would be nice but it's too dang muddy. Have a long weekend in march hoping to be able to work on it then weather permitting.

Mom - just hanging on - but at least not gaining. I'll give the update tomorrow morning.

We are having a beautiful day here in the NW as well. I did some yard work this morning and will be taking my dogs for another nice walk while our house is being shown. I don't know if I'll reach our Easter Challenge goal. I've been at it for just over 3 weeks, so if we only have 8 weeks left to go, it's more than a pound a week for those 11 weeks, which may not be possible for me. I'll just stick with it and hope to come close :-) Thanks for the encouragement!

LOL, tillers don't do well in the mud. I'd also have my Boston pup digging and hauling half the mud into my house!! Thank goodness I don't have carpet on my main floor.

Glad you too are enjoying beautiful weather, and I bet those deer are also! xoxox

Gilliansings - even if we only lose 2 pounds by Easter, at least we have done something. I had better do more because I have clothes that do not fit. I HATE buying more size 12's when my goal is 10.

Ruth - I feel so badly for the wild animals and birds in the cold. Wish I could invite them inside to get warm - LOL. But at least they are well fed!

I live in town with a park behind my house that adjoins both the Truman library and the Missouri river. Dogs were raising a fuss this am. Behind my house were deer running and the beautiful red fox. I tried feeding the birds but I get too many grackles that fight and make a big mess. There were wild turkeys out there a few evenings ago and the silhouettes of deer in the sunset. The puppy goes a bit crazy yet, my older dog is used to the critters. He only barks at the squirrels -- I think they have a game going.

Wholefoodnut - Sounds like a doggie paradise!

They do love being outside. I think the wildlife is well fed. I read something recently though about a deer virus and that the wild turkey population is decreasing across the entire country. Makes me sad. Though the one about the turkeys is sort of ok. That the population increased to more in some areas than the terrain could support and it's a natural progression. It used to be that they were really rare. They are so much smarter than the domesticated ones.

So lovely that you got to play in the dirt outside today. And the deer will love you for it! So happy you are staying focused on your challenge.
