Favorite question of the day "Why do you keep going to the gym? You're just going to get big and fat anyways." This came from little man's sitter. I really want to thank her. It was kind of insulting but at the same time motivating to my twisted mind. Well for one thing I won't get big and fat. I will get big and pregnant. I may gain more weight than I should or want but at least I will do it knowing that I'm still physically active and healthy. Exercise has noticeably lowered my blood pressure. I used to average 130/60. Now I average 110/60. When I don't go to the gym for a week it does go up slightly so I know its the workouts that are keeping me in better shape.

I don't think this woman realizes she just motivated me to go to the gym. lol When she asked that question I instantly came up with about 5 different reasons like health, stress, mood improvement, ability to eat cheesecake without as much guilt, and well.. it's fun getting noticed as the only round chick in the gym. I'm getting nods of approval from people who I've never talked to before. I can stick my gut out while I workout and still get props from strangers! I don't see being pregnant as permission to relax. Maybe because this is my 3rd and I know what I can handle. I also know I will easily gain 40-50 lbs if I don't workout. The more I think of why the more reasons I come up with.

This morning I woke up at 4:30 am with little man which left me thinking I would take my gym bag with me just incase but I was planning on taking it easy and skipping the gym for lunch with a co-worker. Then maybe I would make it up tonight if the kids let me. Now? Well now I'm getting my butt to the gym and I will pick up lunch after. So thank you rude pregnant comment. You are my friend. lol

You didn't say how old the "rude" sitter is. I bet she is young. I had a similar experience. When I told my brother's (nasty) wife that I was on Weight Watchers, her response was "everyone that I know who went on Weight Watchers gained all their weight back, because, how can you stay on that way of eating for the rest of your life?" Her rude words became motivation for me. I don't see her that much but when I do, I just can't wait to see the look on her face when she sees me thinner!

Negative emotion when we allow it to motivate us can be very powerful. People don't get what you're trying to accomplish. Feed the baby, yes, but staying healthy means the baby is healthy.

I've heard that the better shape you are in the easier the birth is. Not to mention all of the benefits your body gets from excercise is passed on the the baby, lower blood pressure, better blood flow, more oxygen in the blood. The baby sitter must be one of those people that think that exercise is all about looking good and has nothing to do with health.

The gym I go to I've seen quite a few pregnant young women. I applaud them. My youngest of 3 was born in 1980. My 2 ob gyn docs encouraged me to walk, do exercises as did my Lamaze instructors, my first one even to keep snow skiing. They did stress low impact. Keep exercising it's good for your's and the baby's health.
