crabby Kat's Journal, 11 November 2013

Amazing how little weight I gained, all things considered. I suppose God or the Universe or whatever decided there's only so much I need to carry right now...

My knee hasn't gotten any better, so after 6 weeks, my physical therapist and I decided it was time for me to go to a doctor, and she told me about a surgeon that did a great job on one of her clients. I made an appointment, then called the surgeon's office and have an appointment with her the day after I see my primary care doctor; December 10 and 11.

My eating has been crazy; eating healthy, but too much. Eating too many sweets, too many quick and easy meals. Too many calories on days when I don't get much exercise, then exercising too vigorously (Zumba) to make up the difference, increasing my pain levels, making sleep difficult....

I hope to even things out by returning to Silver Sneakers on my no-Zumba days. I'm asking my physical therapist for exercises to help me prepare for the possibility of a knee replacement; to be as strong & fit as I can be, ready to rehab well.

Trying to keep my chin up. Went out to lunch with friends today (had a latte, then later had lunch with my partner). Planning on getting serious about practicing the flute, maybe making jewelry again, or painting, instead of baking for my creative outlet.

Tonight I'm making a Mexican Skillet Dinner, with ground turkey breast, whole grain macaroni, corn, tomatoes, green chilies, spices, etc. I have a loaf of bread of whole wheat flax bread in the machine.

Darn, I need to get some actual work done, ttyl.

YES - play your flute again! You know my first career was/is classical musician - oboe. A wonderful outlet for you!

Thanks, HCB, I remember you saying that before. I imagine it would be wonderful to play that well. I'll be happy to play simple tunes; I hope to recapture the feeling that comes with making music. Joy!

Sorry to hear that you may need surgery. Now is not the time to fall off the wagon, you need to be at your best weight if surgery is in the offing but you know that, it's stress that's making you slip I am sure. Hang in there, you really are doing awesome. I'm very sorry that your knee hasn't healed though. Wish I had something wise to say, but all I got is I care.

I gave up baking pretty much when I started FS. The temptation is just too great for me. I am sad to say that I sold my flute in a garage sale...believe that? I played flute and piccolo first chair for a couple of years. It is a lovely peaceful instrument. Go for it!
