jeansie's Journal, 12 December 2008

Yesterday I found out that my dad can't afford my phone, car insurance, and health insurance bills anymore. So along with moving out, I have to start paying for those things. I'm going to have to take a semester off of school and work full-time because I need the money to pay for these things and to qualify for health insurance.

It seems rough, but I budgeted all my stuff out and my baseline needs come to about $1,500 a month and if I work full-time I will make $2,200 a month (after taxes). That's if I don't get a raise in January, which is looking iffy with the current economy (though I definitely deserve one).

Some good news is that my mother (who is getting boatloads of money from the divorce) is going to get me and iPhone for Christmas. It will be my only present from her, but is totally worth it!

Last night I woke up feeling an intense wave of nausea... I went to the bathroom but nothing happened, and when I woke up I felt fine. Maybe I was just really hungry last night? At first I thought it was hunger but as I lay there it got more and more intense. Oh well, I feel better now :)

I really like this daily journaling. I think it's helping me with a lot of the stress I have pent up that hasn't really been released over the past few months.

To-Do for today:
-photocopy insurance card
-give insurance proof of enrollment
-cancel Spring semester classes

The nausea was probably just stress. Don't worry, you'll get things figured out.

Thanks, Sara. It's just a lot to deal with all of a sudden!

I hate to see someone quit school. So often they don't go back. (include myself in those statistics - it took me about 13 years to finally complete my undergraduate - all because I said "I'll take a semester off.") Can you qualify for financial aid of some sort? And health insurance through the college is cheap!!! Take advantage of it!

I don't qualify for financial aide because my dad does make a lot of money. I need to work full time to cover all my other expenses, not just health insurance. Thanks for your concern, though :)

Jeansie, I have to agree w/ Paige. Think twice before taking time off school. It's not just a statistic, people who do this more often than not do not return. There must be some way that you can make it through without totally quitting. There are so many resources available that you can find on the internet and regardless of your father's earnings, you should be able to qualify for aid if you are now out on your own. Please look into it (this is coming from someone who learned this lesson long ago).
