Slow and steady. My weight loss is very steady. It is consistently 2 pounds a week. But, I think that reality weight loss shows have set me up for disappointment. I have lot thirty pounds in three months (give or take).

I should be elated. But, I a not. I am fitting into my clothes better. I haven't really gone down a size, although that is partially because all my clothes were to too small to begin with! But, instead of being excited, I just feel like it should be more. I want the holding up the giant pair of jeans that we all see in the "Afer" shot of the weight loss makeover. I recognize that this disappointment is unwarranted and counterproductive. But, it IS there.

How do I change this attitude? How do I learn to be happy with the slow, but incredibly steady, weight loss accomplishments?

If you can't give up the show entirely, then watch it to see the motivation, the hard work, etc., but turn it off for the weigh-ins. I never watched the show until this season and I find the weigh-ins to be terribly exploitive and a completely unrealistic model set up for the viewing public. You also have to remember that their whole job, their entire existence while on the show is to lose weight with an entire team of health, food, fitness, and nutritional professionals at their disposal. By anyone's standards, consistently losing 2 pounds per week is a phenomenal achievement that many, many others would be happy to have for themselves! You should be very proud of your journey thus far!

Kate, I understand the disappointment that you may be feeling because you think that you aren't losing fast enough! However, just remember, this is not a race, there is no finish line, it is a lifetime commitment. As much as you want to lose it rapidly, losing slowly is so much better for your health and the ability to keep it off. I get discouraged at times and feel like it is taking forever, (my loss averages about 7.5 pounds a month at this point) and I just want to be done.....then I stop and think about what done truly is. Am I done when I reach my goal? Or is that when this lifetime journey just starts down a new pathway? We are doing this for more than just cosmetic reasons, we are in it for our health, and that is worth any amount of time that it may take to get there. Personally, I think that you are doing fantastic, and that you should be really proud of yourself! Keep up the great work, and if you are feeling down, just remember that 30 pounds is a bag and a half of potatoes, 30 packages of butter (go load up a cart with 30 boxes of butter and look at it, it's pretty amazing!), 6 bags of sugar....Wow, that is awesome!

Kate, you are doing amazingly. I would love to lose two pounds steadily each week. Remember this. The built up fat stores toxins over the years. If you lose too fast, those toxins can be released into the blood stream and make you very sick. Two pounds a week is perfect. Congratulations and keep up the good work. You'll be to goal in no time, even though it may feel long. Hugs!

2lbs a week is fantastic!! :D But like the other said, the people who are on those shows are there to Just lose weight, they don't have all the other daily things that we have to take care of in our lives. And they have a huge team of people to help them lose. Slowly but surely is the best. I get discouraged some times, but I look back at how much I've lost already and I'm really proud of myself. I enjoy all the little changes that are happening to me. I use the shows for inspiration and encouragement, and workout while I watch the Biggest Loser episodes. I also love Dance your A** off. :) I saw the transformations that they had, and thought I could have one just like that. And sure enough I'm working my way towards holding up a pair of pants for a big difference after pic. :P But I know it'll take me year and a half to lose all the weight. I accept it and just take it one day at a time rather than thinking about how very long it will actually take to get to the end.

Of course you are right. Darn TV! I am not the most patience person. It is prolly one of the reasons why I am overweight to begin with. It is funny, I think I do think of this weight loss process as a race, with a finish line. And that is just silly and will land me right back into those giant pants faster than I know.
