Day #3 of ultra-low-carb for me. MAJOR difference in hunger last night compared to Monday night! Similar to a presidential campaign several years back, a little voice keeps telling me, "It's the CARBS, stoopid!"

Even when I try to drop carbs to a low level, I still toss in some mushrooms with my eggs and have cooked onions with my burger (ketchup too). And, of course I wanted to eat the fresh tomatoes that just came out of the garden. If I were seeing how low I could go, I wouldn't have any of those items. Still, the carb level in these last 2 days is significantly less than I was running prior to this little experiment.

If one were doing Atkins by the book, this is exactly what's advised when weight loss stalls out....drop your daily carbs by 5, wait for a week, and assess. If no loss, drop again, wait, and re-assess. I just have a hard time keeping my carbs in such a tight range to be able to attribute any change in weight to a very specific level of carbs. In GENERAL terms, I know where I need to hang out, but is it 30? Or 35? Or some other number? I don't think I could pin it down so exactly.

As for exercise.....UGH Index another 10 this morning. DH got the lawn mowed after work yesterday and it's a good thing he did. We had a deluge of rain last night and again this morning. The rain stopped in time for me to get the poor doggies out. I'm not happy that the weather is so uncomfortable for them, but I know they want to get out of the house and stretch their paws, no matter what the climate is like. So, we went a shorter distance in as much shade as I could find for them. After dropping them off at home, I finished up my mileage.

Just an FYI that I thought I'd toss your way--if you want to avoid the nasty corn syrups in regular catsup, Heinz makes a reduced sugar catsup (contains no sugar or corn syrup, only zero cal sweeteners) that is only 1 carb per tablespoon and tastes good. Also, I noticed that the coconut oil that you use is Spectrum. I've been thinking of changing brands, what is your opinion on the Spectrum taste, etc, please?

Hi, you sound like you are doing well. I never thought to lower my carbs that much that I couldn't have those types of veggies. The carbs I avoid are the carbage ones and the high carb veggies. I know onions are higher but a little in a burger and a few mushrooms - heaven help us if you have to go that low :)

Well, first off, glad you weren't so hungry, but, IMHO, zero/ultra-low carb for extended periods of time (longer than a few days) is unreasonable to expect of a person. No mushrooms, no onions, no ketchup (even the reduced sugar versions), isn't realistic. NOT eating a fresh tomato from your own garden...Yikes, that is like cruel.

I believe Sandy is only doing practically zero carbs for a bit to break a stall. Big difference between "ultra" low carb and zero carbs, also...most physicians/nutritionist consider 50 carbs a day to be low carb, and ultra low carb to be 15-20 grams a day. I've been 20 carbs a day...since January of this year, and I've never felt deprived in any way. *shrug

Raven, that ketchup you mentioned is the one I'm using and isn't it amazing how good it tastes? I'd never guess it's reduced sugar except for reading the label! As for the Spectrum coconut oil, it's the only one I've ever tried, so I can't compare. I went by some "things to look for" in the Mary Enid book, "Eat Fat to Lose Fat" (hope I got the title right...). Anyway, it tastes really good to me.

Issy, I don't think I'd carry on this way forever, as I don't believe I'm THAT carb-sensitive. But this is just a way of dropping some weight I gained over the 2-dinners-out weekend and a way of adding something new to my same old boring routine. LOL! I feel the same way about the tomatoes as you do....there was no way I was going to pass them up, carbs or not!

I agree with you GG. When I first read about the "Meat and Egg Fast" I read about a person who basically stayed on it until she was within 20 pounds of goal (her goal was losing 180 pounds, I believe). It worked for her, but a daily regimen of 5-10 g. of total carbs is way too restrictive for me and, ultimately, very unsustainable for me too. I think I've found my Maintenance level of carbs, but needed some extra "kick" to get me back into losing mode...guess I missed that part about determining one's Carbohydrate Level for Losing (LOL!), so it's time for me to discover where that is...it's been much more elusive than I would have thought. :)

Sandy, I can't tell the difference with that catsup either, love that stuff. Thank you so much for the oil info. :)

Raven, I never knew there was a real level associated with the term, "ultra-low-carb!" Who knew? I just used the term as it seems ultra low carb to me. Learning something new every day! :)

I never knew either...until I was bombarded by Docs, nutritionists, and cardiologists using the term! LOL

Sandy, I really think that things change for us girls, so it is really good to keep an open mind to trying a new little twist here & there. Nothing like a fresh perspective to get us appreciative for our WOE/WOL! Back in the "Before Atkins" I remember wondering how I would EVER be able to do it? Funny how our thinking changes!
