PinkRose88's Journal, 13 July 2013

Last night I froze a mashed banana. I was hoping for an ice cream alternative. This is a keeper! Think I will freeze 2-3 at a time!

I bought an appliance that makes a wicked frozen fruit "ice cream". It's called a Yonanas. You simply peel OVER ripe bananas (the ones that are getting all brown and you'd usually toss!) and freeze them. When you're ready for a treat, set two out for 7-10 minutes at room temp, then run them through the machine. It turns them into a soft serve frozen delight. I find them a bit too plain, so I add things like other frozen fruits (strawberries, blueberries, mango, peaches), PB2 or PB2 w/chocolate (dehydrated peanut butter that's SURPRISINGLY good reconstituted with water, and 0g fat!), or a small sprinkling of sugar substitute. And 0 PPVs...well, 1 if I use the PB2, but still a super healthy, tasty snack alternative! :D

I have some bananas getting ready to turn. I might have to do this!!!!

remember, the more ripe the better the taste after freezing. If you try it with a perfectly ripe banana, it will taste bitter when you freeze it. ;)
