LisaPhenon's Journal, 29 April 2013

I have not been myself lately, but I'm fighting to get back to normal. Feeling pretty good today. I'm prepared for a good week. I made my kid's dinner menu, and my dinner menu, and I went shopping this morning. I've been really struggling for self control in the evenings. My appetite just kicks into overdrive at night. It's not even that I'm really hungry. I just want to eat, and I usually give in to temptation, so I've been trying to figure out what to do about that. I've decided not to fight it anymore. I'm just going to make evening snacking part of my plan for the day. I just have to know ahead of time what I'm going to be snacking on. My boyfriend told me about Fiber One Chocolate Brownies. 90 calories. They are really good, and they do the trick when I have a sweet tooth. I also got some sugar free Jell-O, string cheese, fruit popsicles (no sugar added), and Popped rice cake snacks. I'm going to have one or two of those snacks around 7pm every night. If I have a cup of green tea in the evenings, then maybe I can get by with just eating one snack.

Anyway, I'm doing well. My kids are happy, so I'm happy. I've been doing absolutely everything in my power to put a smile on my daughter's face, and it's working. She has a new pink dress, so yesterday, I made her a pair of earrings to match. She was so happy. She wore her dress and earrings to school today. Only 3 weeks till my boyfriend comes home, and he called with some great financial news today, so I'm on top of the world.

I think that's a great idea, schedule a snack in and plan ahead for those calories. I was just ravenous last night and gave in. I think possibly I need to have a small protein rich snack right at or before 7pm to try to curb that. String cheese or yogurt or something. I'm so relieved to hear that your daughter is feeling happier with her life, I assume your son is doing better, and ONLY THREE WEEKS! OMG! LOL-I know well how that feels! Spent years waiting for the hubby to come home from one hot sandy place or another!

BTW-your lunch sounds SO DELICIOUS! Was it as good as it "reads"?

lol my lunch was awesome! I decided to just make a wrap at home instead of getting fast food like I've been doing lately. I just went to the store this morning, so everything was super fresh... my son is okay, but I'm still a little worried. He took all his pain pills, which means he's still in pain. I'm just hoping the ER doctor was right about his diagnosis.

The program I am doing has you eating every 2-3 hours, that includes after dinner! They are small meals (including your main meal), but it also does not include processed foods. An idea for a night time snack is a frittata made with a combination of whole eggs and egg whites, plus vegetables. My favorite is caramelized onion, roasted red pepper, spinach, and a little Swiss cheese. I put enough vegetables in it that each slice has AT LEAST one cup of vegetables in it! Full of protein and veggies it makes the perfect night time snack :)

http://www.skinnytaste.com/2012/02/light-swiss-chard-frittata.html This is the basic recipe, but I change it up. I can't find chard anywhere. I've tried it with kale, but prefer spinach. I also use coconut oil instead of butter. I've done anywhere from 8-12 eggs (half eggs, half egg whites), depending on how big of a frittata I want to make.

Good call. I'm a night nosh fiend too, so I just save up and eat some at night. My favorite snack? 1/2 cup lo fat cottage chees with a 1/2 cup diced mangos. Supremely satisfies sweet tooth and gives me good filling protein. 4 oz of chicken breast is another good one.

That's good. I love cottage cheese with mandarin oranges or peaches or pineapple. Tonight, I just had my fiber one brownie, and I'm sipping on some green tea now. I'm satisfied.
