LizCon's Journal, 25 April 2013

Really bad night, and now I hurt all over. I don't know how I'm going to motivate myself into moving at all today. All I want is to hide in bed and pretend the world doesn't exist. I had planned a 3 mile walk to visit my pending reward for dropping 20 pounds (his name is Spot), but leaving the house seems like too much work. I also need to do laundry and pack for another quick 2-night trip, which leaves tomorrow at 5am.

Bleargh. Red Bull and painkillers are my friends. Let's hear it for better living through chemistry!

Hang in there. Hopefully the red bull and painkillers does the trick and you can jump out of bed full speed. Have a great Friday!

I got out the door motivated by seeing Star Trek TNG on the big screen (Best Of Both worlds!!) and being surrounded by 200 of my fellow geeks, needs and trekkies got me excited enough to get all my walking, crunches and squats done. It also helped that I really want to fit into that unitard costume again for the next event like this.

Anime - it's slang for animated, and usually means the stuff from Japan. I go to a lot of conventions, too, but I'm generally found working behind the scenes on the (unpaid) staff (all the best cons are volunteer-run, not for-profit like ComicCon, IMHO). Best fun you can find, taking over a hotel with a few hundred of the best friends you've not met yet. Tell him to volunteer, it gets cheaper, and all the best stories happen behind the scenes. There are usually discounted or refunded memberships, staff rates on hotel rooms or free crash space, and a lounge/den/green room where volunteers eat free.

yep that is it...he is planning on going to Japan for study abroad has met some people through the conventions and playing the game. I will let him know about the volunteer stuff - sounds like more fun and much cheaper :)

I'm mostly into SF books, myself, but I have so much fun helping to run things that I go to the anime and media and furry cons to work and be with my friends. Fans are a special breed, and tend to be the most helpful, cheerful, friendliest and nicest group. I'm glad your son has so much fun with us!
