Alwayspretty's Journal, 06 April 2013

Been thinking so much about my lifestyle, especially what I do for myself. Why can I not put me first? I have always put my children and husband first, and I truly believe it has made me feel less of myself. Why? I have amazing, accomplished grown children, and a husband that loves and supports me. Good grief. Get a grip!!

I am trying to be very mindful of what I am doing, thinking, and eating. Our weather has been so gloomy, so I am thinking that that has some bearing on my depression too.

Time to pull up my big, big, big girl panties and get a move on!! Kick me in the butt!!!

I believe its a woman thing - we all do it. Good on you recognizing it and choosing to take care of you :-)

Agreed-it's a woman thing. Sometimes we do indeed get in our own way and block ourselves from doing things that make us happy because it isn't putting others first. I don't know the solution either.

I get in those kind of moods too... And, I procrastinate about doing things for myself and keep putting them off so long, that those things get lost. But, if my husband, one of my kids or grandkidlings needs me or something, I am right there. Oh, and of course wonderful peri-menopause, then menopause, ughhhhhhhh.... Just pick out one thing that you would like to do for yourself and just do it! I caught myself once a month buying music cd's for my husband (my Ogre), and thought HEY, why am I not buying a new music cd for me??? LOL! Then U thought, I don't even know who my fav music artist is, so I made a 'Wish List' on Amazon. Heck, I have one for everyone else, and not ME??? Now, I am waiting for my first one to come in the mail! I hope you find things in your life that make you happy!

I have been feeling the same way! Hard sometimes to pull oneself out of the dumps but a good kick in the pants can certainly make things seem a lot brighter!

Welcome back! Count this as something you do for yourself!! As far as the ever present dilemma of never putting yourself first, I believe we have this ingrained in us from childhood. Mom was a continual servant. We loved her for it but I wonder how she felt about it. It's a learned behavior. And any learned behavior can be unlearned. Learn something good for yourself today. Learn to do one thing special for YOU. Learn to notice what makes you happy that isn't dependent on other people. Learn to make choices that feel right in YOUR heart. We both need to embrace this kind of thinking to help ourselves be bealthy. What would we do without each other??? I can't imagine my life without you in it - let's learn to take care of ourselves so that we can have many more years of sharing life together. We can do this. Thanks for writing in your journal. I needed to see it. It has helped me return to healthy thinking again. I have slipped since Easter and have been scared to weigh in or even think about 'getting back on the wagon'. Well, thanks to your entry, I'm back. You need to be here for your own well-being. And so do I. Love you tons!
