kimmyjeanmiller's Journal, 26 March 2013

I am very frustrated tonight I went for a short walk and fell and reinjured my knee, just when it was starting to feel better again and now I can hardly walk on it, this knee thing is really bringing me down and keeping me from excersising that I know I need to do, so that being said I found on Amazon a floor pedal excersise machine that I am going to order on Friday which is payday and start using that and give up on walking untill I get some of this weight off. What frustrates me the most is that I am 46 years old and feel so much older. I see other people my age doing things that I want to do and right now I just cant do them and that makes me sad. I guess that is why it is so important for me to get this weight off, I have too much living to do to be crippled and not able to get around. I know that I am making progress and I know I am doing it the right way, just venting and whining a little bit, enough of that and back to the task on hand, eating healthy, loosing weight and start living again.

Sorry you hurt your knee, I know how discouraging that can be when your trying so hard. I have low Vitamin D and osteopenia. I have stress fractured both of my feet at different times, while exercising, I have a Torn Rotator cuff, and I'm on medications that decrease my motivation. But I am going to keep trying to eat better and even though in the last 4 weeks of cutting my calories in half, I haven't lost a pound, but my jeans fit a bit looser. Today I decided to lower my RDI even lower, because right now I'm not exercising. Hope you feel better soon. I feel your pain- but it's in my shoulder. lol

Having the weight tying you down is DEFINITELY bothersome. Been there, had that. However - rest assured that it is with the CALORIES and not the exercise that you can make the biggest difference rigth now. Sure, you can burn some extra calories, and you can obtain a bigger weight loss (or eat more) with exercise, but you can make quite a dent in the calorie deficit on calorie restriction alone. The first MANY MANY pounds I lost I had little to no exercise. I simply was not in the mindset for it. All I did was count my calories, make sure I had a significant deficit every day (AT LEAST 1,000, preferably much more). I say take your time and heal, be careful what you do and count your calories. You're already on the way. You're doing good.

Keld is right. Weight loss is mostly about dietary choices. I think I've heard 80% food. 20% exercise. You can do it. One day something clicks and you just do it. Rooting for you. Feel better

Thanks all for the encouraging words, I know that calorie restriction is the way to go and even though I cant excersise right now I will still loose weight as long as I stay under my RDI, guess I just needed some reassurance that it would be ok not to excersise for a while to let things heal up, thanks again so much, it means a lot to me

Kim, sorry about your knee... I feel the same way when I'm sick or have a bad ache or pain and can't get my workout in. However, don't do anything that will worsen an injury or problem. You can try some stretches with your arms and stuff, I believe it's good to try and get some 'focused' activity in. Keep the calorie count in mind and you should be fine. Keep up the good work...

I can relate to how you feel as I will be 45 years old in May. At my highest weight I weighed 485 lbs. I am now down to 285 lbs. You can do it just start off slow and work up gradually as you get more strength in your body. You will soon discover that you can do things you never thought imaginable. I am dancing, walking, and enjoying life after nearly 18 months. Don't give up!! Use the exercise bike, strength training cords, chair, and whatever else you can find. You will get there I promise!! I didn't think I would and I am still losing a little slower now but still going!!

Kim, I hate you reinjured your knee. I can relate to so many things in your posts. I am 45 also and also a nurse. Lately, I have been so fatigued and just stiff and aching all over. I figured it was because of my weight. But, I have also just recently developed knots in my hands. I had just joined the YMCA and ordered some Zumba tapes. But, I have been feeling discouraged, because of these changes. But, I know in the long run, that the exercise is going to help. And, know that your not in this alone!

And way to go tmmoore. You have lost 200 pounds in 18 months. That is something to be so proud of. You are an inspiration to me. Wishing you continued success!
