tina10915's Journal, 28 January 2013

So most of you read my journal from yesterday about getting on and off the scale when it reads lower than the day before but what do you do when it reads higher? I am an emotional eater and a binge eater and I am also a pouter. I hate when I see the scale go up and I used to eat things that were not good for my body and it was kind of a "Take that" to the scale. I have a bad habit of thinking that I have control and since I am already "up" on the scale, I may as well eat what I want for the day and just start fresh tomorrow.
Truth is, I don't have control and it is a battle of mind and body every day. Today I am up a complete pound. I know I ate well and was drinking water late into the night so that may have something to do with it and also to much salt in my diet yesterday. I know in my mind that these things are probably the culprit but in my mind as a binge and emotional eater, it is a reason to eat and binge. Now before you all get bent out of shape, just know that I didn't even eat the cookie that my son left for me from last nights baking frenzy. I know I cannot eat like I used to and that I consistently need to watch what I eat but these are the things that I am thinking about while I lay here in bed not able to get up.

I can understand where you are coming from. We all LOVE the days where the scale goes down- the days where we weigh ourselves 3 times to make sure it was right. Then there are THOSE days... where the number on the scale goes up... we spend the rest of the day trying to figure out how and why it shows what it does. Every time my weight is up, I swear to myself that I am only going to weigh in once a week instead of daily. Of course, I weigh myself the next day and it almost always is lower. We all have times where the number on the scale is not where we want it to be. It WILL get better. Based on your weight history it looks like you have already lost quote a bit of weight! Keep doing what you are doing, the weight will keep coming off!

Hey, Tina......you ARE in control of what goes into your mouth....but not in control of what your body is doing day to day. Look at my weight history - and I've been "good", too, on my diet. up, down, stagnant, down, up. Who knows? Even on The Biggest Loser tv show, with 6-8 hours of gym time, and controlled eating environment, sometimes they gain! In Atkins NANY book it says the body can naturally flucutate 4 lbs in either direction EVERY DAY. so they advise either weighing once a week or averaging the daily weight with the two previous days. You are doing FANTASTICALLY well. One thing you have learned for SURE: if you eat the old way, what the result will be.

OMG!!! You must be a clone of me!! I could have wrote your journal entry! Oh girl.... I have had my own issue with ice cream today. All I can say is we have to hang in there. We are going to have bad days! I am going to hit my stationary bike in a little bit. I know you have some knee issues, is there some kind of activity you can do? God bless you....

Hang in there Tina.. the scale will fluctuate on a day to day basis.. You know that you have been sticking to plan so the increase isn't from the food.. It gets very hard, I know... TRY NOT to get on the scale everyday - sometimes the scale can be your worst enemy when weighing daily.. Please don't beat yourself up. Hang in there and Good job on not eating that COOKIE! You've worked so hard to lose what you have so far and you're doing an awesome job! Don't give up!

I sometimes think there is a little gnome inside my scale that laughs at me for expecting daily weight loss, "What?? You crazy? You expected to go downward two days in a row??". Sadly, he/she is probably right. When you consider that a single 16 ounce beverage weighs a pound, it is easy to fluctuate. I still weigh every day; I can't afford to lose control and gain. It keeps me honest and focused. I record every new low and don't worry about the fluctuations up. Eventually, those will go away as we move from weight loss to weight maintenance. You are doing a great job, keep it up!
