Hi Fellow FS Warriors! Seems like an eternity since this flu bug hit, but I've actually only had it for two weeks. Nyquil is my friend. I was taking the Mucinex, but turns out it really wasn't for the symptoms I was having. It was meant to loosen things up and make your cough more productive; however, if my coughs were any more productive, they'd have to expand the local water treatment plant. Once I started taking the nightime Nyquil, I actually slept through the night, and that helped more than anything. Before that, I actually went like 36 hours at a time without sleeping. I would fall asleep, but then wake right back up. Now I'm sleeping through the night, and occasionally getting rid of some extra stuff now and then throughout the day. No sense getting graphic; I'm sure you guys know where I'm coming from. The snot machine has just about run its course, and I'm about ready to get back into the swing of things. I hardly did anything this past weekend, but rest and watch TV - which BTW, I found rather boring. I just wasn't motivated to do anything, and I was afraid that I would think I was doing better than I really was, and I would put myself down under again. This weekend will be different; I can feel it!
I know some of you are just getting this thing, and you have my sympathy. All I can say is "Rest!" There was a time when I thought about just downing a half bottle of scotch just to knock myself out, but I knew I would feel even worse the next day. The Nyquil helped me. I never got it down in my lungs, and I will be eternally grateful for that.
I've got another hobby now to do in my spare time - developing black and white film. Chemicals arrive this evening. I still use digital cameras, and also use color film with one of my 35 mm SLR cameras, but I really enjoy using the completely manual SLR cameras with no battery powered shutters or light meters and then developing the film myself. I have the enlarger for actually printing the pictures, but for now I will just scan the negatives into digital format for the time being. Maybe if I can fill up all my time with chores and hobbies, I won't have time to eat. :) One can only hope.

OK, I don't know if this is just another flavor of the month (no pun intended), but this technique seems to make a lot of sense when it comes to weight loss. I have often found to be true exactly what this Doctor Linda Mintle is saying - and I'm paraphrasing here - It's the first couple bites that really satisfy the craving and taste so scrumptuous, and after that you're just eating to be eating. After those first couple bites, if you could just push the food away from yourself, you'd probably be just as satisfied. See what you think. Toodles everyone!

In economics we learned about Marginal Utility. Ice cream was always the example my prof would use. No matter how much you love ice cream, there comes a point where having another bite just doesn't bring you any more pleasure. Each subsequent bite is less satisfying as the first.

OK Dairy King - I only have enough calories saved today for a chocoloate protein shake for dinner. You just try taking that away from me after 2 sips!

Like the fuzzy logic of only eating a few bites..and I am sure it would work..but if I have saved up for this one thing for weeks..I'm sure I won't be leaving any for later...LOL..so glad your feeling better buddy...I love Nyquil too...when I have a cold of course.....:O)

Yeah, I'm with you. No way am I walking away from pizza or spaghetti after only two bites! I think the "A" in pause has to be "Avoidance" for me; once I take the bite, I take the plunge!

Thank goodness, you're feeling on the mend, DK. Would be so happy when you're your 100% DK self again. Enjoy your developing. Gotta love all your hobbies.

Glad your feeling better pal. I know what you mean about lungs. It almost always hits my lungs, someone said because I was a preemie. I might try that savoring the first few bites, but it might just make my 1st few bites bigger.

Thank you for accepting my buddy request ~ and I started 'mindful' eating a few months ago and it has really helped with maintaining a healthy intake. Combining this into giving into my craving before it becomes a binge has helped as well.
