Eating out sucks!! Officially.

I ate out on Saturday for a friend's birthday, luckily it was a Chiquitos where I was able to ask for plain roasted chicken and some roasted veggies without any oil/sauces and sides. That was fine, but I don't think I would have been able to go along if they had chosen something like an Indian or Chinese restaurant.

Today was a nightmare. I had a working lunch, meaning I couldn't pull out of it nor could I choose a restaurant. The restaurant had a set buffet menu which I wasn't able to see before we got there and once I sat down with most of my colleagues from the office I realised I was seriously going to struggle. Today is one of my protein-only days but had to give in and change it to a protein+vegetable day just because there was nothing I could really eat. I've decided to have 2 protein only days tomorrow and the day after to compensate.

First of all, the starters was one of those 'get up and help yourselves' salad bar. Which was fine. I didn't want anyone to make a fuss so got up and put a small amount of vegetables on my plate but only ended up eating 1.5 cherry tomatoes and a small piece of courgette because I could tell there was oil on them and god knows what else. I couldn't ask for anything specific because it had all already been prepared and to be honest, the food was pretty gross.

And then came the mains! chiken and leek pie, roast potatoes, peas & carrots, cottage pie, sausage and bean casserole or salmon fillet in a herb and parmesan crust. Hopeless but I had to pick something so I chose the salmon fillet and ended up spending 15 minutes picking the crust off - I managed to pick most of it off so I only ate the actual fillet but man the questions! People thought I was being ridiculous but I don't care, no way was I eating that bready crust! I also ended up eating a fork or two of red cabbage but again I noticed it didn't taste plain enough so stopped eating it. Desserts came around and I didn't even bother looking at the menu, I just ordered a diet coke.

What a day! I honestly don't think I will ever be eating out again, not until I'm finished with this diet. I have to say, I can't believe I actually said no and was so determined to not eat the salmon crust. Normally the thought of other people questioning my actions would have made me too self conscious to not eat what everyone else was eating, but I stood my ground! I just don't think I will be accepting any more invites to eat out any time soon.

Mad because I had to ruin my routine, today was my protein only day but ended up eating vegetables. A very small amount, but still vegetables. So definitely going to do 2 protein only days tomorrow and day after to balance it out this week. Eugh. I hope I don't get an invite to eat out any time soon, far too stressful!

It is tough to eat out during cruise. Food is always salted more than you would at home too. Finding one or two places where you can find something on the diet works to save your sanity. A salad with chicken breast and asking for balsamic on the side works well for a PV day. adjusting to a PV is absolutely fine. As i said...i sometimes when 3PP/3PV to change things up especially if we were committed to going out on the weekend. They look at you sideways if you just order a half chicken with no sides but the swiss chalet here does it :). You are doing great.

That's what I did on Saturday! I ordered half a chicken and swapped the sauce/potatoes it came with originally with some roasted peppers and mushrooms! It was strange asking the waiter to change the dish completely but he was fine with it, I just said I couldn't eat it so he probably thought I had some unknown dietary condition or something! But that's what I'm going to do, I'm all about routine so even marked my PP and PV days on my diary so I know for sure so it's going to be weird straying from that and having 2PP days in a row. I guess I'll feel good afterwards though, I always feel just slightly more bloated after a PV day and really lean after a PP day. Love PP days! But do look forward to the veggies, funny how they almost become a treat because you couldn't have them the day before!
