I'm off the exercise bandwagon. TOM is here in full effect. I'm taking the weekend off of exercising. Okay, that's not really true, but I'm going to have fun and exercise. Not just me strapping on my New Balances and hitting the street for 90 minutes, just walking and jogging, and running. No, that's not for me! I'm going to go rollerskating. No, no rollerblading or inline skating, ROLLER skating, 4 wheels, 2 rows of 2. Old sdhool style.

If I have not gained or lost weight since my last weigh in (glance at the top of the screen, ignore ) 11 days agoWeigh In Now! reminder), then I have exactly 14 days to lose 3-4 pounds. I leave on vacation in two weeks from today. Actually, in 14 days, I'll already be on a plane on my way to Jamaica. I can't wait. Even though right now, after looking at myself this morning, I am all sorts of bloated and puffy. I'm almost contemplating not weighing in until after TOM, but I know that I can't last that long.

I got to thinking last night, about what I could to lose weight. And strange things were coming up, like if I cut my hair, would it reflect on the scale. My hair is more than halfway down my back, and very thick, if I chopped it all off, would I register a loss? If I got my gel tips removed from my natural finger nails, would that make a loss show? I shaved my legs yesterday, how about that? I know my mind wanders to strange places, but it makes you think about how desperate I am getting to shed these pounds.

On a completely different note, I was cleaning out my closet at my parents' house this weekend and I came across some old diet tools I used to use. I found a Weight Watchers slider from 2004 when I did that for like 3 whole meetings (which I didn't even attend, I went in, weighed in, and left!) and also a diet diary, which I used for a grand total of a week and gained 3lbs. It makes me think about what was so different this time. What made me really want to do it and stick to it? I wish I had done it sooner, and I tried, but I guess I wasn't truly ready.

Last, but not least, a co-worker of mine said something disheartening yesterday. It was the end of the day, and she walked past me, and said, "you're using Alli, right?" I replied, "Oh no, absolutely not." So she asked, "what are you doing then?" I said, "just watching what I eat and exercising." She said, "oh I can't do that." Now, she probably weighs, I can't even say, but a lot. Why wouldn't you be able to exercise? I want to shake people like that. You don't have to run a 5K, but why not grab a hand weight and lift it while you're watching TV? It doesn't have to be 3 hours of hard intensive working out, but low impact why not walk in place for 10 minutes? It hurts to see people slowly killing themselves with inactivity.

Oh well, hope everyone has a good weekend!!! Hopefully I'll have good news with my weigh-in on Monday.

Wow. Rollerskating. That is old school! Reminds me of the good old days. I think my BFF and I lived on our rollerskates for a couple years. Of course I'm a little older than you (or maybe more than a little), but we used to sing You Kiss Is On My Lips by Hall & Oats. Oh and we made fake nails out of scotch tape. Which brings me to your funny thoughts about weight. It's easy to get obsessed with it. About your co-worker, a lot of people thing exercise has to be an hour a day huffing on the treadmill. But it can be a walk around the block. As you said. Have a good weekend. Enjoy those rollerskates.

Hall & Oates?! I love Hall & Oates. I may be a bit younger than you, but retro stuff and 80s things are my life! Thursday, July 22 is 80s NIGHT at the roller rink! I'm totally gonna be there for that!

Did you ever go to roller skating parties in elementary/middle school and have the illustrious "couple skate?" That was a big deal! Sounds like you'll have a really fun time. I've thought the same thing about the little things that add up to weight loss. The last time I donated blood, I wondered how much that weighed! My thing to think about is all the uneaten calories we report when we're logging food. I mean, I don't lick the inside of the yogurt container clean, so isn't there a calorie or two I'm not eating? Or in a microwave popcorn bag, all the butter that gets stuck to the inside - I don't eat that, but is that considered in the calorie count? Granted, it all evens out with all the uncertainty in exercise and food we log anyway, but I always wonder. Have a good weekend, and I hope TOM starts treating you better!

That is awesome. See many people think exercise has to be work and not fun... but roller skating is FUN and a workout. Maybe you should tell your coworker to go roller skating. :) Also I completely relate to trying to figure out what to do to lose weight. If I chopped my hair would it make a difference, if I took my belly button ring out, shaved, went to the bathroom, etc.

Alli ... I often wonder how much my boobs weigh and the loose skin I have hanging around. If I got a tummy tuck would I wear a smaller size pant? Would I weigh 5 lbs less and finally be closer to the 175 I so envy? Perhaps if I did a colon cleanse!! LOL!!! A co-worker actually implied you were using drugs? EEK!!! Oh it is so difficult for some folks who still feel "stuck" in their bodies to enjoy the progress of others. I used to think I couldn't count calories. I would feel deprived. It took many, many years for me to wake up and many 'diet' plans experimented with. 14 days until Jamaica??? How exciting!!! I hope the hormonal cycle passes quickly and you start to feel the excitement of going to Jamaica looking FANTASTIC!!!

@ moose: the funny thing is that i wasn't even offended that she suggested I'm taking something (my office is 98% women, I'm sure they all think that I'm starving myself), I was more offended that she suggested that she can't exercise. This is the woman that takes an elevator from the second floor to the first floor (our building is two floors), if she just took the ONE flight of stairs, there would be her exercise.

Yes!! Baby steps. One small change in her lifestyle could have such a positive impact on her health. It's such a shame some people seem to have given up on themselves.

You know, my friend was telling me how all the women in her office once surrounded her desk to ask her how she could possibly keep herself thin when they never saw her eating Lean Cuisine or other "diet" food. We are just trained to believe that we need "products" to lose weight and stay healthy. Sure, these thigns are helpful but they aren't necessary.

Alli, I know A LOT of people that think they can't do things b/c of being big. I myself was one of them until recently. I used to use the elevator until it just hit me...TRY THE STAIRS!! I thought it would bother my knee and I used that as an excuse until about a month ago. Now when I don't use the stairs, my knees creek something fierce! I have also recently tried jogging and tennis. Roller skating is another love of mine...I used to do roller derby for like a minute:) I need to take my kids soon! Thanks for the good ideas!

Good point, Tammy. I know my mom thought for years that she "couldn't" exercise because of her weight. At that point, it was mostly feeling extremely self-conscious about being heavy and out-of-shape. But now she's right: she can't exercise. Her knees are so bad that she physically can't walk more than a block.

My mom "can't" exercise. I tell her flat out "No Mom, its not that you can't, its that you wont." She knows it. Shes also been on about 1000 diets and does nothing but gain weight.... Its all mental. We suggested to her she gets gastro - she said no because she loves to eat to much.... My Mother in Law on the other hand insists that the only way people lose weight is by starving themselves, and she refuses to do that. People will do what they want to do, and nothing anyone else says means a thing untill they are ready to stop making the excuses.

Also... Evan will get on the scale before and after shaving and always loses a pound. Just saying.... lol

I love roller skating! I'm jealous. No one here wants to go with me.
