Help!! I desperately need help! No matter what I try to do or what plan I try to follow I can't seem to lose any weight. I have tried walking on my treadmill everyday, keeping my calories under 1200, keeping calories at 1500. I was thinking about trying the Atkins diet for awhile to see if that helps but I have to get so much fiber everyday and it seems to me with Atkins your fiber would be too low. I can't really eat alot of meat either. I have thyroid disease (hypothyroidism) My doctor says to keep my diet low fat low calorie high fiber lots of vegetables. Any advice?? I would like to lose about 60 pounds.

Have you had your thyroid levels checked recently? Some people respond better to natural thyroid medication that contain both the T3 and T4 hormone. Perhaps talk to your doctor about that. I also have a hypothyriod and I have had good results with a diet relatively high in fat. So unles you have some other condition that prevents you from eating fat perhaps try that. Everyone seems to have a different optimal levels of fat/carbs/protien for weight loss. Experiment as much as you can to find the right one for you.

You might do well on carb cycling. That's when you have higher and lower carb days and get your carbs that are lower glycemic. Plenty of protein, fruits and veggies. When you start a diet, how long do you stick with it to see if it works. Have you lost any weight at all? Are you being honest about your intake or do you take bites, licks and tastes? Do you drink water? Are you active? If you are hoenstly eating 1200 a day, then you should lose weight. It might only be a pound a week, but its still a loss. If you do low carb and still don't lose any, then you might talk to your doctor. You really need to give a diet a few weeks to see what happens and exercise can be your best friend. Even slapping on a pedometer can help and aiming for 10,000 steps a day. On many days of your diet calendar, your protein intake is very low. Protein and high fiber foods help us lose fat and rev the metabolism. So lower carb or carb cycling might be something to try.

Thank you both so much for the advice. I think I will try the lower carb/high fat and protein for awhile. I will do some research on it. Thanks again.
