seaside16's Journal, 09 November 2012

I'm really thankful for this site, and the buddies I have through it. Mentally I still am not really where I should be to lose weight. I tend to get in this mind set where I feel it'll be impossible to be thin again...so I come on here and read all the journals, and really get that motivation I need back. To see where so many of you have started and where you're at now-even if you haven't reached your goal yet- is simply amazing to me.

Hey, Don't be so hard on yourself. You've been doing well. Losing weight always seems such a slow process compared to gaining it. It must be because gaining it doesn't require as much work. Plateaus are the worst, but if you keep trudging on with your routine no matter what the scale says you will get over that plateau and start to lose again. Keep it up.

Instead of thinking "diet" try thinking "health" or "lifestyle change" then maybe it will come more naturally to choose good foods.

I do need to look at how far I've come ans be more positive....and thinking of it as a lifestyle change is important because I'll never be able to go back to bad habits without gaining back the lbs.

Sea, you don't have to be "mentally connected" to lose weight. You just have to be willing to take the first step. When I first started, I was terrified. I lost 10 pounds last December without even trying, which I thought was odd. And then I found out it was due to having diabetes. So after I got the diagnosis, I was terrified. I didn't have a very good start - I remember eating Shredded Wheat and regular pasta the first week and couldn't understand why my blood sugar was 179. I knew I needed to lose weight, but I didn't know how I was going to get there. I remember one of the first things I did was clean out the carbs and starches out of my kitchen. One of the second things I did was start taking my dinner to work, that really helped control the carbs and the calories. The third thing I did was go to the gym for the first time in a year and do the elliptical for 20 minutes and walk 20 minutes. I started off just doing those simple things. I wasn't particularly pushing myself or doing something that was really hard. But the key was, I DID IT. I did it and did it and did it, and refused to go backward. In a month I had lost 11 pounds just doing those things. That's when I couldn't BELIEVE it and started to get serious. I amped up the exercise and clamped down on the calories and carbs. You will get there. Just start out small like I did. Just pick 2 or 3 things you can do that are better for you. Just work on consistently doing those 2 or 3 things only and don't worry about the rest. You WILL get there. I know you will!
