moondove's Journal, 22 August 2012

I have been struggling to get back on track to low carbing for months now. I seem to make it about 1 1/2 days in induction phase, then the carb monster comes out of nowhere, and chases me down something fierce. What a vicious cycle. In August, my Ogre and I began raising our 8 yr old granddaughter. She previously lived out-of-state and we are all going through lots of changes. Did I mention that I had to buy little girl clothes and shoes, am decorating her room,walk her to school, take her to hip-hop dance and girl scouts. Got the pool up and running, and entertain her new neighborhood girl friends? She says she is an 'Inside Kinda Girl', who I am helping to be an 'Outside Kinda Girl' LOL!

Hope Everyone is having a great week! :)

Why do you find it so difficult to last even two days in induction? Low carb shouldn't be seen as a diet but as a way of life. As a means to lose weight it has to be one of the easiest methods out there. Instead of eating low calorie on weight watchers and being hungry all the time instead you can have chicken thighs cooked in coconut oil with lots of herbs and crispy skin with a side of crunchy salad with olive oil and vinegar! Hardly a trial!

Why don't you try carb cycling. Google it! You have higher and lower days, so you can get some carbs but still lose weight. A diet needs to be sustainable for a person to do it for the rest of their life in order to keep it off. If you love carbs, then Atkins might be too restrictive for you.

Sounds like things are very turned upside down at your place,give it another try. After a few days you won't miss the carbs so much. My husband still loves potato and rice and I still cook it for him. I fill my plate with whatever meat I have made and lots of veggies. Keeping track here really makes a difference for me,I know exactly what I have had for the day. Good luck and keep us posted.

MaineDonna is bang on but Suzi161 is frankly talking bullsh*t. Low carb works and is easy cos the food is nice. Simple. Your body can survive perfectly well on less than 20g carbs a day. Meat and salad and delicious fat. The first week will leave you feeling awful but after that, provided you have WILL POWER, it's plain sailing. It's laziness that got you here but it's strength and fortitude that will get you out!

and just looking at your breakfast, you were doing really well until the tomato. Why did you feel the need to have the tomato? It is high in carbs and doesn't satiate. Also, the splenda is going to trick your body into thinking it is having something sweet and will make you further crave sweet things. Keep artificial sweetners to an absolute minimum

I don't think that Suzi161 is full of anything, I agree. Maybe strictly low carb isn't the way to go. Maybe you should try something different and see if it sticks better. If you really want to do low carb, I'm sure you can do it, but it takes time to make adjustments. I hope you find what works best for you. Have fun with that little girl!!

low calorie is IMPOSSIBLE to maintain long term. Diets don't work. Lifestyle changes do. Lots of fresh meat, fish and vegetables. Small amounts of carbs. Thats the only thing that will work.

I agree that low carb is the way to go and that the first week is often not easy for any of us. If you can stick with it, you won't be sorry you did. I have never felt better in my life and many health issues that I used to have now are resolved since I started this WOE. Carbs are addictive, and like any addition, it is hard to break the habit. You just have to throw all the junk out of your home and not allow it in if that's what it takes. Children don't need crap in their diet either. Think of it as setting a good example for your granddaughter. :) Watch the documentary "Fathead," you will learn a lot from it and knowledge helps, too. Before doing induction, I prepared myself by weaning off of sugar and high fructose corn syrup (I was addicted to coke cola)...try that if all else fails before going into induction.

Hey girlfriend it sounds like a lot of fun at your house, lots of changes for sure, it is so hard to get back to it, but no one said it was going to be easy. You have done it before and you will do it again (you know you will) a loving Mom and Grandma. Oh I know you already know how to do this, been there and got the Tshirt, do what works for you and you know what that is. Love ya {{{HUGS}}}

So glad to see you seem to being doing wonderful with your journey. In regards to your question: If I knew the answer, I wouldn't be here, and I would be skinny and healthy all of the time, right? LOL! We each are entitled to have our own way of getting to where we would like to be. I wish you well on your healthy path. (Why do you find it so difficult to last even two days in induction? @ Susie: Letting the carbs back in caused weight gain, and how I got off track. I did do quite a bit of research about it and it seems to work for some. But definately not for me. But THANKS for your advise. I appreciate it! :) (Why don't you try carb cycling. Google it! You have higher and lower days, so you can get some carbs but still lose weight. @ MaineDonna: Thank you for your support and good luck with your journey too! I'm going to be a Mother to my 8 yr old Granddaughter at 53 yrs old. I'm actually loving it! Just not what I expected to be doing at my age. Thank goodness my husband still has his GI Bill to send her to college when the time comes! And she has 4 Aunts and Uncles, and 6 cousins to hang out with :) I just need to get over the Atkin's Flu (shakes and headache), 3 more days to go! Once I make it over that hurdle I will be like you. I can cook anything and be around anything and it won't bother me as long as I eat timely and drink my water. (Sounds like things are very turned upside down at your place,give it another try. @ nothing: Please... if you want to bash, go do it some place else. I don't appreciate it and do not find it supportive or helpful. (MaineDonna is bang on but Suzi161 is frankly talking bullsh*t. @ Nothing: I am doing Atkins. If you are interested in learning more, read away to understand why I am eating servings of tomatoes. I'll give you one hint, 'THEY ARE FULL OF POTASSIUM' in which your body cannot survive without.(and just looking at your breakfast, you were doing really well until the tomato. @mars2kids: Thanks for sharing and support! Good Luck to YOU! :) I guess I should unhide my past diet calendar so that everyone knows that I did Atkins for almost a year and was pretty successful at it.

@ maggamin: I'll unhide my prior diet calendar so everyone knows I had become a pro at Atkins. It just took me one slip up of not eating all day to get me going down the wrong path. I'll get this horse going doing the right path again! Thanks for the support and info. Good luck to you with your healthy WOE!
